Configured as shown in the main interview it looks like the EVF would get in the way of a 4x5.6 matte box. I use the Arri Clip on matte box with Canon CN-E primes. Zacuto, do you have any images of a setup like this?

Hey Darryl, apologies for missing this comment. Unfortunatly I don't have any pics with a mattebox because we don't really use them. I can say that we have customers that use them and the EVF does not get in the way because it's on an adjustable arm and the baseplate position is adjustable so there's plenty of space for everything to work together. The only exception that that is if you're using our Z-Drive follow focus which generally cannot be used with a mattebox. - Rachel, Z-Team

Can you use a matte box with this rig or will the EVF be in the way (it looks like it's in the way on your pictured rig with the prime lens)? A matte box is important on a RED since it doesn't have a built in ND wheel.

The short answer is...it depends. Always helpful, I know! Basically, it depends a lot on the length/size of the lens, the position of the camera forward/back (our baseplate has a lot of adjustment but you also need it in the correct spot for balance,) and the size and mounting style of the matte box. Generally, a very short lens or shifting the camera too far back on the baseplate will make the matte box interfere. Our setup had no interference with the EVF though.

You can't use a wireless or non wireless follow focus system with this though... And the rods are too low to fit a matte box. You need a matte box with red - no built in ND's (no good ones anyway)

you'll also see the viewfinder on anything wider than a 24mm lens...

No one wants a Gratical EVF because it requires a separate battery.

The HD and X models come with their own batteries, just Canon LPe6, super easy. And you can power the Eye model off whatever battery you're already using. Just need a D/P tap.
