Fresh from Breakup with Nyoka Longo who went and formed Nkolo Mboka....Here Familia Dei agog with excitement before their catastrophic failure...that shortly led to Lengi Lenga dying of frustration and sheer fatigue as Jossart proceeded to power through with the evergreen medley; Jetez le Ponge; throw in the towel/forget the past (mocking FD?)...(1989)..the past turned out to be Familia Dei..(Family of God) Could the pick of name be indicative that they thought/believed that Jossart was using other wordly wiles? ZLL lost so much from this breakup IMO.. The history of Congolese music is not far from the history of the continent; full of resources etc but going round in mad circles of division and mistrust...trauma of western colonial mental slavery....but nonetheless in Congolese music the bewitching songs of diverse African birds and the call of the 'dark heart' nativity ala Conrad, echo through...a cry for acceptance while struggling with the nagging colonially imposed self-doubt of whether our nativity is primitive......Vive la musique congolaise, vive l'Afrique!

J'ai assisté à un concert de Familia Dei au Ma' Elika quelques semaines après ce concert de la sortie officielle du groupe. Leur prestation fut nettement plus "chaude", avec un Redo Likinga des grands jours et le showman Mbuta Mashakado revenus au pays. 'Ya Lengos, JB Buse, Beniko Popolipo, Yvon Kabamba et Djerba Mandjeku Makale furent également magnifiques ce soir-là.
