Indian Tabla player Zakir Hussain and Sarod player Amjad Ali Khan perform at an evening of exchanging music in the year 1999 in Delhi.
Ustad Amjad Ali Khan is popularly known as the "Sarod Samrat". He is the sixth generation Sarod player in his renowned family. The credit of modifying the Sarod as a classical instrument goes to his ancestors of the Bangash lineage originating from Senia Bangash School of Music. The present day Sarod has been derived by modifying the ancient folk instrument of Iran known as Rabab.
Ustad Zakir Hussain is arguably the most famous Tabla player of our country in the post-independence era. Over the years, he has performed with many talented musicians not just in India but also across the world. He became a famous international celebrity after taking the sounds of Tabla to many international festivals and shows. This eventually flooded him with opportunities to work in many international movies as well. This led to the creation of brilliant works of fusion, which was new to both Indian and overseas audience. Overall, his contribution towards popularizing the Indian percussion is immense.

Actually it DOES! Agreed along with Swapan Chaudhari, Kumar Bose, Anindo Chaterjee and few others Zakir Hussian is one of the best tabla players he is a tabla player and is a accompanist- Regardless of a few tea commercials or the curly hair.

dalbir singh Dalbir Zakir and his Father played with my father atleast 50 times! I've meet Zakir uncle atleast 100 times, when he stayed with us! I'm not denigrating Zakir Hussian in anyway as I immensely respect his artistic abilities HOWEVER when a tabla player plays with either a instrumentalist or a singer in the role of a accompnist then however famous the tabla player may or not be he is the secondary artist. Look up the album of aashish khan (who is junior to alla rakha by 18 years) where ustad alla rakha plays tabla with him, Aashish khans name is first. Not only do I know Zakir Hussian and his father personally but I also knew Pandit Ravi Shankar, Nikhil Banerjee as they were my fathers guru brothers! Have a nice day
