I absolutely loved it, though to just push back a teeeeny tiny bit, I think some of the greatest compositions, whatever the genre, come from those who refuse to accept, “what is supposed to be”. Really, even this amalgamation of “east meets west”, was once considered some sort of blasphemy by “purists” on all sides, and would still today be considered vulgar by such folks. I know what you mean, generally speaking, and I agree, but I had to antagonize just a little. (If you want to even call it that, or push back, it really isn’t either.) However you want to define or describe it, this was absolutely mind-blowing, and imo, a perfect performance! ✌️

Missed the point a little in my opinion!?! It was a fusion and credit goes to the marriage of jazz and indian classical.. I love jazz for what it is and appreciate all that i have heard.. However, keeping an open ear might have helped understand the intent of the concert.. No disrespect just my opinion..
This is what im thinking for my entire life since i was 17... a jazz with classical tabla beats. Awesome.

This is great stuff. Folks might also enjoy pieces by early Oregon, when Collin Walcott was their sitarist/tablist (from about 1970-1984). Walcott studied with Hussain's father on tabla (and Ravi Shankar on sitar). After Walcott's death in '84, they worked with another great tabla player, Trilok Gurtu. With compositions primarily by Ralph Towner, they're less overtly Indian in their styling, but there's clearly a strong cross-cultural interplay there. Kind of wish they'd been mentioned in that discussion of jazz and Indian music!

This must be one of the most cross-over-events that you can even imagine. Afro-american jazz gets married to Indian sort of tabla- and sitar-music. As I can understand, this marriage works out very well in the end, so pehaps we can say that this is a success marriage. This music will bring us to understand each other and make a stop for all stupid people that think that it is only their own culture and music that counts.

Never heard of any of these musicians previous to stumbling on this. Yes, wow! All four are fabulous! The way they meld their playing blows me away!
