Zakopane | Hiking to Lake Morskie Oko in Tatra National Park in Poland

Next time I recommend going to the mountains, on any of the popular trails, for example, to see the “Valley of 5 Ponds” (Dolina 5 Stawów in PL) or the waterfall “Great Siklava” (Wielka Siklawa in PL), I guarantee that your jaw will drop to the ground from the views. Of course, you need to be physically prepared, because these are long hikes where you do 25-30 km of walking each (15-18 miles). If you want more excitement and adrenaline, you can always go to the highest peak (Rysy), where in good weather you can see part of Poland as well as Slovakia “from a high perspective”. It's awesome :D.

@@SlowTravelWithUs I don't know how long you plan to stay in Poland, but the best and SAFEST time to go hiking in the Tatras is from the second half of August, to mid/end of October. In spring, early summer, late autumn, or winter, of course, you may encounter snow or ice and avalanche dangers (on some trails), which increases the risk of accident or injury. In addition, during this period (August-October) the weather is the most stable and it is still very warm. Of course, seeing these trails at different seasons also has its own unique atmosphere, but nevertheless it is better to bet on safety. The Tatras may not be the highest mountains, comparing to, for example, Alaska mountains in the US, but statistically looking and comparing with other mountain ranges, a surprisingly high percentage of accidents here end in death. Returning to Zakopane for a month is a good start to see at least some of the most popular places, although it would probably take years to see them all if you count the Slovak side of the mountains (by the way, Slovakia has its own version of Morskie Oko, which is also beautiful and you can get there by special bus from Zakopane, I recommend, it's called “Štrbské Pleso” in PL Szczyrbskie Jezioro).

@@maxalbon9557 We are no longer in Poland, but we do plan on returning soon. When we go back to Zakopane to hike in the Tatras we'll follow your advice and definitely be careful. Maybe Late August into early October would be a good time. Thank you so much for that recommendation and those precautions. I'm sure that staying a month, we would barely scratch the surface of what there is to see and do in the area, especially with all of the hiking trails available. That's interesting about the Slovakia side, taking a bus to that side sounds nice too. There's so much to do and see! I'm taking notes on all of these names! Thanks again for your responses!
