1076 - 1/100 Gundam Barbatos Lupus Rex (OOB Review)

Here's the Full-Mechanics 1/100 scale Gundam Barbatos Lupus Rex. With a name like that the kit has a lot to live up to, and for the most part it does! The biggest glaring flaw is the kits near inability to hold up it's primary weapon!

am I the only one that loves the beastly look of the rex? the large arms with claws and the huge feet are meant to make the barbatos look like a wild animal.. because of this, the criticisms to its design is slightly bias as it is not following the typical gundam designs...

Same, I love the slightly longer arms of the rex, it gives off a feral kind of feel. Overall one of my favorite gundam designs actually.

I judge a mobile suit by how it looks in action like the rex in this case I can see it sitting in a giagantic throne with it's mace as it's scepter implanted in the ground as he stares menacely down at smaller mobile suit.......wow I just made the hero suit sound evil and I am most certainly going to do that

Kind of fitting, Mikazuki & the Barbatos are never really so much a hero, as a weapon pointed in the right direction most of the time.

Sucks that the Bael will be the last FM 1/100 kit from IBO. I hope they do the Kimaris Vidar in FM and again a missed opportunity for the Gusion Rebake Full City and most of all the Flauros. I have the Kimaris Trooper and Grimgerde and I would love the final MS for both Gaelio and McGilis in 1/100 and with no sign of a FM Kimaris Trooper that will not be possible.

Yeah, The 1/100 models for Kimaris Trooper and Graze Customs were announced after the first season ended, so I still hope we can see a 1/100 Kimaris Vidar and a 1/100 Full City with Four Rifles :/

Is there any way to reinforce the handle of the mace? I'd keep worrying that the damn thing would snap in half or warp its shape. I really wish the normal 1/100 Barbatos had the mace with it, a mg is in order I think.

How do you think it compares to the 1/144 version? The FM 1/100 is slightly better looking/more detailed, but the HG seems to be much easier to get into a lot of dynamic poses, especially when using the mace

I think this just sold me on the 144 scale lupus rex rather than the 100. A bit of extra work is just fine on a already sturdy kit. Never really got sold on the full mechanics line anyway.

+bunnyfreakz​ First off, I prefer 1/144 over other scales. Second, Paint! When I watch these reviews, there's a few things I look for. Articulation, Stability and Artistic design. Notice how stickers and part separation are things that I don't really care about. So no, I'm not joking and the stickers don't bother me. Get and old HG Gundam Wing EW kit and try to talk to me about stickers while I laugh at your bad grammar. If you already have had and old kit like that then shame on you for forgetting where we came from. I swear people nowadays are beyond spoiled.

I would like to know if the back plates for the hands on the Lupus will fit the hands from the rex, lupus is supposed to have claws too, but doesn't.

Kinda sad bout the side chest armor is still connected to armpit joint Also if your getting the first run, you might as well use the included action base to hold that large mace

I have the Grimgerde and its perfect also the kimaris trooper seems perfect as well. I think that the rex is propably my least favourite 1 100 ibo and Not cause of the Design But just because it Has some unforgiveable flaws

When you hold the mace at 9:36 the handle is really weak and it looks like the Barbatos won't be able to hold that in 1 Hand Are there Stress marks or the handle of the mace especially when you pose it for longer time?

no probably won't be any stress marks. But the joints will surely sag over time from the weight.

To be honest, i don't see the appeal of the bael. I mean it's personal taste and all but it's design is the most boring one to come out of IBO. All the Ibo kits so far were different and memorable but bael is just meh. Compare Bael, kimaris vidar, vual and dantalion. Bael stands out the least.

Oof the bending of the mace handle is worrisome. I wonder if it can be reinforced by drilling a pin through it.

I think I like the Rex, but its problem is it can't hold up with giant mace in an action pose

ZakuAurelius yeah i like all part on rex just shoulder part on lupus are bigger and looking better then the rex..and on lupus i dont like the mace type like sword..i prefer mace on rex...but i just got a little problem when posing the mace on rex right...so maybe i should buy rex for my first ibo gundam haha.. thank you for your opinion

luncent Cy sadly no. even the mace handle itself bends due to the heaviness of it. the hg can, this doesn't. but this has better proportions than the hg. if this had the stability of the hg, or the hg had this proportions, rex would've been perfect.
