Exactly. You CHOOSE to run it or not. It's not mandatory. Being old, I've seen all the incarnations of ALL electronics that "ruined" bass fishing. Yet, here we are (50+ years later) talking about FFS ruining bass fishing). As a little kid, I still remember when the old "Green Box" was "ruining" fishing according to the them old (now dead) guys. Then, it was the paper burner that "ruined" bass fishing. Of course next came down and side scan that was "ruining" bass fishing. In 2019 (a whole 5 years ago) when Thrift won the FLW cup, he "ruined" bass fishing with the 360. Now, it's FFS that is ruining fishing. Newsflash: Wheeler just won on Santee with FFS and a ball head jig with a piece of plastic on the hook watching it on his FFS. Yet, everybody had FFS on the same lake, at the same time, yet "The Wheel" is the one that won it. Now I know that Wheelers decision to stay off-shore, find the hardest bottom return on a nothing flat that had little to no traffic with very little isolated cover and knowing that post front, the bass were glued to the bottom, had nothing to do with his win. It's the electronics that told him all that. The other 9 guys with the same electronics set-up, at the same lake, at the same time, etc, etc, for some reason, didn't get told by their same electronics the information that Wheeler's electronic told him. Must have been a systems malfunction on the other 9's gear. Call me silly, and me just being a week-end hack, but I would SWEAR that Wheeler somehow knew something the rest of the field didn't know, and however remote the chance, it MUST have been the FFS that told him.

They are more than willing to play the game with electronics. If they say "want to just get back to fishing" they are lying. They will do anything to get an advantage over other anglers. If it was true what they were saying, they'd all band together and get rid of electronics in tournament fishing. They all want an edge over each other and that's why we see them with multi units on boats

What's even worse is these corporations are the ones really benefitting. The payouts should have increased with all of these profits from consumers purchasing their electronics.

Back in the 80’s, my cousin talked me into fishing my first tournament. They blasted off in their fancy bass boats and I just fished the creek at the boat ramp all day in my 14’ jon boat. I didn’t even have a depth finder.. I ended up winning and they changed the rules after that. I never did another tournament..

I've been fishing all my life, love the new tech, within reason, fish Guntersville, and have seen all the pros, even when Bill and Roland fished here, and they were my idols. Now I fish the lake and see everybody staring down at their screens like they may as well be ice fishing. The launching ramp in the dark of the morning is lit up with enough radiation from the electronics that we don't even need parking lot lights to launch the boat. The Scopers clump up fishing the same bait ball and literally bump into each other because they don't even look up enough to see where they are. Used to be people would argue if they were too close to each other on a shoreline or creek channel, and now they are so close together, they argue about casting to another's scoped fish.

Regardless of what anyone is saying it’s definitely here to stay. Maybe a good solution is to have different classes, a limited class and an unlimited like in racing. Potentially could be run different days so they could fish in both classes with different points adding up to the championship. I’m sure sponsors would like that

I started watching some of the original stuff recorded long ago a few years back then I checked on the current stuff and was bored. Can't wait for a new circuit to appear with anglers with knowledge and skills only again. Way more exciting imo.

I have tuned out of Bassmaster. I'm concerned 5-10 years from now when 8 transducers and 5 monitors is affordable. Our lakes and fisheries will take a huge hit. Most people only think a week in advance. They won't understand when the sh*t hits the fan. They will blame everyone but technology.
