What a colorful and fascinating woman! She has used the plants well but it’s her use of colors that is truly amazing! Especially for an English woman!

Dear Zandra I've followed you with joy all my life... Fyi You do favour the Pink , I noted that your N Zealand flax was a darkish variety green...there is a marvellous pink stripe, that might float your boat .. Oh yes The Secret Life of Plants, talking to them works as does Beethoven and heavy metal music ..fabulous book. Hugs and thank you for the colours of joy - enthusiasm. X

And to think it all started with the Flower Fairies. :D I remember when Zandra designed the costumes for The Magic Flute here at our San Diego Opera! I adore her use of old stage set pieces in the garden. The story about driving around with that Aztec sacrifice statue atop her Mini is hilarious. I have a large resin Buddha face from a wall fountain that I found laying in a field, all properly weathered and ready to go. Much of my garden is on old cement pavement, thus I've dealt for years with the challenges of container plants. I've laid full size citrus and Bay Laurel trees on their sides, pulled them out of their pots, revitalized the soil, and replanted them. As you say, a good chop will enliven most herbs. Zandra seems so down to earth in her sky-high garden; weeds get everywhere, no? Yucca are native to our county; you can see them blooming all over the hillsides once you drive east of the mountains. The waxy, creamy flowers are gorgeous. Oh, and Sago palms! They were very popular here in front garden landscapes (especially for Mid-Century homes), but so valuable they were often dug up and stolen! I really enjoyed this low key chat with a special lady, who is not only talented and famous, but kind. Cheers!

That sexy but deadly serious and naughty tone at the end “I’ll take you up on that” sent me over the edge.😂

Zandra seems like a nice person with a great personality but I just find her style a bit tacky and garish. Just because things are brightly coloured it doesn't make them tasteful. Having said that she is an accomplished woman and I'm not taking that away from her.
