It's not lame to have walking as an activity, Zane. I've always enjoyed walking in cities and never went to the gym. I lived in Makati as a kid, and surprisingly, we walked a lot. Lived in a condo, and back then, the buildings were low-rise so we took the stairs, esp when there were electricity blackouts, we couldn't take the elevators. Me and my siblings and cousins would walk in the villages (gated ones) and play in the parks. We were mallrats in Glorietta and Greenbelt. Unf we couldn't walk in other parts of Makati coz it didn't seem safe for girls. I live in Europe now and it's even better to walk in the cities and take public transport. It's free workout and even more entertaining. Strange that I love city walking, but can't last fifteen minutes hiking in the mountains lol! I guess I'm a city girl at heart. Thanks again for taking me around my home city, Zane. I miss it so much and I like your random food crawls and citywalks. Enjoy your weekend!

Ayala Ave used to be an airport runway. The avenue and land around that developed area (including the malls and gated villages) are owned by the Ayala Corp. Thats why you will notice their own private police, not city police. And different traffic rules. You will also notice no cable wires or electrical poles, theyre all underground. Old wealthy families live in Ayala and Alabang. That's why it has that relaxed vibe. BGC residents live/rent in condos, and work or study there. Different crowd. Btw, aside from underpasses, there are airconed bridges/covered walks above connecting malls and other office bldgs. Thats where the chaos is. Sidewalks used to be full of pedestrians, now there are few people around.

Nice! You should try a visit to Ortigas center, which is the second largest business district in Metro Manila, and has its own vibe. Its older than BGC, but not as old as Makati. It was mostly built up in the late 90s to mid 00s, but they keep building the taller glassier scrapers there. Another recommendation is Bay City, which is probably my favourite among the modern areas in Metro Manila. As modern as BGC (and still being built), but with a different architectural style and urban model. Its quiet and chilled there, wide quiet streets.

Makati vs BGC? I've stayed multiple times in Makati in Ascott Hotel specifically, and once in Ascott in BGC. I totally prefer Makati for long stays! Glorietta, SM, Greenbelt are all linked and makes outings perfect. Dont get me wrong, BGC is fun for nightlife, shopping, excursions, maybe next visit stay in BGC again.

Legazpi is a good area. You're close to an MRT station, which is at the end of the Greenbelt-Glorietta-SM Makati mall complex. There are a lot of elevated walkways to get around the area. And if you want to go to BGC, it's not far at all.

I'm pleased you like Makati. Nowadays people seem to be talking all about BGC. A lot of foreign vloggers stay in BGC. From watching videos on youtube there's many people in BGC probably due to the fact that it has wide pavements. It's family-friendly no wonder families frequent the place. I love Makati as it has plenty of malls and you can go cheap when eating and it is the CBD of the Philippines. Makati has nice few spacious parks. I would love to live in Makati. I hope my daughter doesn't sell her condo when its turned over. Thank you for featuring Makati.

Greenbelt in the 80s and 90s used to feature a very large park and an aviary covered with huge nets and trees. I guess that’s where it got its name. Makati is a very walkable city thats why I like the city. I live in the nearby city across the river.

Makati will always have my heart. BCG is cool but as a kid, born in the UK to Filipino parents and having older siblings living in the Philippines (they were born there), Makati was our stomping ground. I’ve been visiting the Philippines since I was 2 and it’s truly home. I remember arriving at NAIA at night during December and seeing all of the beautiful parol as we drove to my brother’s house. There’s nothing like Christmas in the Philippines, I remember the singing tree in Luneta Park and the electric atmosphere in the malls. Also, respectfully your comment about Filipino food having a “bad rep”, I’m not sure where you’re eating Filipino food but it certainly doesn’t have a “bad rep”. Anywhere you go in the world will certainly have a few places that aren’t a great representation of their country’s food but as a whole, the Philippines has one of the most delicious and diverse food offerings in the world. How could it not with such a melting pot of cultures? As a tropical island their access to fresh local food practically always results in delicious food. Filipinos have the most amazing talent in creating delicious dishes from minimal ingredients. I hope you get to discover these delights :)

Makati is Metro Manila's premier CBD and it is located in the heart of downtown. It is a bustling place, my parents worked there, my wife worked there before their office moved to BGC. I also had my creative studio in one of the areas where you walked through but decided to move it back home here in Southern Metro Manila as I've been getting alot of clients from the area plus Laguna and Cavite. I like the vibe there and still go to Makati at least twice in a week. Anyway, Greenbelt is only the mall. It is actually part of Ayala Centre which also includes Glorietta, Landmark, etc. The area you walked through heading to Greenbelt after crossing the underground walkway is Legaspi Village.

I live in Legazpi Village. Best spot in the country. Nice parks, quiet living (most workers are just out morning, lunch and goihn home weekdays). We have Makati Med hospital, art gallery, museums. Best way to go to Greenbelt is through the Elevated Walkway. And nearby is Greenbelt Mall (not part of Legazpi Village but of Ayala Center but it's at the border. Greenbelt is like a circle, From 1 to 5 and then 1 again that's why you see Greenbelt 1 next to Greenbelt 5. Landmark has a food court in the basement and a grocery.

2:21 - Possible Station of Manila Metro Line 6, Once the Construction starts in a Section between Balintawak until Las Pinas, this Underground walkway will be affected, and the Walls for Underground walkway will be torn down to make way for a new Metro station, I hope that underground walkway will have provisions for a new metro line traversing Ayala Avenue, into the northern, and southern suburbs of Manila. 10:38 - Fun Fact: Unlike in Robinsons or SM Malls (Except SM Makati), most of Ayala Malls owned Malls use automatic sliding doors, that opens only when there is a pedestrian entering that commercial establishment, and it is a similar technology used to Platform Screen Doors in train, the reasons is because for their safety, and convenience.

The most entertaining part of this particular vlog for me is when you pointed out how there's a Starbucks in one corner of the street and then there's another one almost right across it. I just think it's funny and makes me wonder how much planning was done behind their inception but as a Filipino, I think I know the reason behind, and I'd rather not surmise and type anything negative here. Nature wise I prefer Makati, but convenience wise BGC is becoming more hip and popular. And the security is much stricter. Some parts of Makati with nearby communities like Pasay and Manila City is not an advisable Community for expats like you. Better to live in a condo in BGC and shop in Makati. Shopping and Dining in Makati is more fun than BGC .
