This is a video about the enchanting beauty of Nushki City, famously known as the City of Golden Desert, and discover the mesmerizing Zangi Nawar Lake nestled amidst vast sand dunes.
The name "Zangi Nawar" translates to "Zangi" as a tribute to a person named Zangi and "Nawar" means lake in the Balochi language.
The unique views of Zangi Nawar Lake are a vital water source for the locals and their animals. This lake boasts a distinctive wetland ecosystem, and our journey took us to the largest pond within its expanse.
Local narratives speak of 9 to 21 pits scattered between the sand dunes, acting as reservoirs that absorb floodwater over centuries. The water, normally saline, transforms into sweetness during rainy days, creating a surreal oasis-like appearance.
Spanning across 1060 acres with a length of 13 km, Zangi Nawar Lake captivates with its azure waters, offering a breathtaking oasis in the heart of the desert. Witness the evolving wildlife scenario, where once 90,000 migratory birds graced the lake, now dwindled to less than 1000 due to illegal hunting.
This once pristine haven, attracting birds from Russia and serving as a year-round sanctuary, now faces the threat of becoming Asia's second-largest illegal hunting ground. Despite the challenges, the sunrise and sunset views remain spectacular, creating a visual feast for those who venture here.
Zangi Nawar Lake, a mere 48 km from Nushki City and 200 km from Quetta, beckons both locals and tourists. However, be prepared for a rustic experience as the road to this oasis may be challenging. Ensure to bring essentials, including food and drinks, as facilities for tourists are limited.
Embark on an unforgettable journey to Zangi Nawar Lake, where nature's wonders meet the resilience of a community amidst the shifting sands of time.
But watch the video to find out WHY! And let me know what your favorite lake in Balochistan is?
