The 28 minute version of Black Napkins here has become my absolute favorite Zappa song. It's absolutely phenomenal

This video has just made up my mind about buying this! Thank you. By the way, my last two videos are all the Zappa I have bought in the last 2 weeks. I am not really "new" to Frank because i have listened or sampled since 1995, but it never really grabbed me, but new to owning Frank and now I'm hooked!

28 mins of Black Napkins is just the most beautiful fantastic thing. Cant believe Frank knew it was in the vault just to be diccovered much later on.thank God it did. Deluxe versions of everything with Ruth.

Aaagh Id love to have this one, because I love the sound of this band/performance, but it is very expensive. BTW, I also really like the 'all songs from a batch of performances' concept versus complete consecutive shows, where i have to listen to the same songs many times to hear all the nuggets. I wish that was the highlight version of Halloween sets in very simple packaging, and the completists/collectors could get the limited edition expensive boxes that have complete shows.

1. We get to hear, here, how pre-overdubs Black Page #2 was always a bit of a mess - with Jobson especially rushing ahead of the beat 2. No mention of how the I.E.B had solos from Ray White and Marini (Brit joke - how fitting that this song should feature someone called Lou!) 3. This version of America Drinks is based on the Ponty version 4. Parts of the fourth-night Purple Lagoon were on the original. But since the originally-released Purple Lagoon was a hybrid of the Dec 28th and Dec 29th versions I was disappointed that the ZFT didn't complement it by making a half-hour edit gathering all the best unreleased bits of the 27th, 28th and 29th. All the remaining Zappa fans in the world are obsessive scholars, so give 'em what they want. 5. No-one seems to notice that this version of Find Her Finer is actually a too-slow version of the '88 arrangement 6. A bit of Any Kind Of Pain was played at the second Halloween show the same year. 7. The fourth-night Black Napkins guitar solo goes over the ten minute mark - but that's not unusual for the time. Even longer Black Napkins solos - Berlin 76 (though interrupted), two of the London 77 ones, and that 78 one we all know about. 8. The CD5 Black Napkins is incomplete - the full 20-minute version had a great Randy/Terry bit which ought to have been released, plus Jobson doing his usual thing. 9. The CD5 Punkys Whips is similar to the remix/re-edit which was made for the 2-CD ZINY, but it's lacking some overdubs. (I prefer the 2-CD version because, besides leaving the first instrumental break untouched, it has that moment where the overdubbed guitar merges seamlessly with what sounds like the biggest loudest vibraphone ever built), 10. I'd be slacking if I didn't mention that some of the horn charts were by Tom Malone, and that, as Frank explained on 28th December, Peaches was orchestrated by *the* Howard Shore!

Last year I finally found a copy for 58 USD, no cardboard box or ticket included, but it has the tin manhole case, booklet, cd-s and slipcases, so whatever matters is there. A few weeks ago I got it from my brother, whose I address I ordered it to. Absolutely fantastic release! I didn't even listen to disc 1, as I already have a copy of the vinyl and CD releases. As I wrote earlier, I like this concept, where I get one (best version) of each song and some bonuses where different versions differ enough. Going through the discs is a great listening experience, and not an overburdening research task, as some box sets tend to be. BTW, I don't like Zappa's complaining about Warner brothers. Very unprofessional and sounds like a cry baby.

A Petit Wazoo Box Set With 1 Complete Show; ( I think Theirs only 2 Shows in the Vault ), And 2 Discs of Petit Wazoo Band Jams. Just Improvisations & Solos !! That would Be Sick!! Ruth's Piano "Black Page' is worth The Price Alone, Its Gorgeous. Sound Quality Is Amazing.. Shaggy , I really Appreciate These Videos. You Been doing These For A While Now & Im Gonna Miss This when Your Done...Hoping you come up With Something to Keep these Videos Going... Maybe A Suggestion..There Really is Nobody doing Grateful Dead Release Reviews On KZbin ; ( Dicks Picks, Daves Picks & Box Sets, ETC..). Dont Know How Much GD You Collect, But If you Do Theirs Plenty Of Material to Keep You & Us Busy For A While. Just A Thought.
