The most amazingly underrated depiction of Jos/Max. Jos is so often lazily portrayed as some evil abusive Dr Frankenstein, but this guy who who made it to the Pinnacle, whose career was definitively impacted by how unflattering it was to be Michael's teammate-- went and literally bet it all on his son. To the detriment of his own life (at the time). Seriously, how rare is that?!

I cannot fathom the dedication jos put in for his son from the get go,his life revolved his son’s passion and also max for how appreciative he is of his father and for how his dad followed his son in his passion.max meant when he was asked who was his racing hero and he replied his dad.

I cant help watch things like this and be sad, when i was 4 i wanted to be an f1 driver, but my family could barely afford the house we lived in, let alone a season in karting. I'll never forget that no we cant afford it from my dad. Every other birthday my dad would take me karting, but thats all we could afford. Im now 17 and have got myself a job with the sole focus of buying the necessary equipment to go racing, and win. Ive got my sim rig, gloves next, then helmet, then shoes, the overalls, then national d license, then whatever car i can fond that is eligable for a series in the 250 motorclub, if not then ill look for karts.

I would recommend karting mate, since you're 17 you will be in seniors in either the rotax or x30 class if you're in the UK like me, closest racing you'll ever get and the most affordable way to race, it's still expensive obviously but nothing beats blasting down the straight at 70+mph with your arse an inch off the ground, that speed and that close to the ground it feels like 100+

@@jamesmiddleton8335 rental karts are usually pretty old and very out of shape. They also have very little grip since the tracks usually run the tyres until they are absolutely destroyed before putting new ones on to save money. A race kart will be nicer to your back but your ribs might hurt from the cornering forces and going over bumps at much higher speeds, good to get a good rib protector, they're a bit pricy but damn are they worth it

2:30 besides the obvious talent, MV at seven had yet another advantage over his rivals, a physiological advantage; he was very light, and small making the entire package more aerodynamic, and he did something many important drivers, like Senna, failed to do which was winning the karting world championship. For anyone interested, there is a brilliant article on BBC about how Jos built Max to be who he is, but also, how his own psyche, aided by his mother, herself a brilliant race car driver, made him into the miracle he is. And a characteristic I feel is most important is the fact he is psychologically centered, almost laid back, and his radio communication with the pit crew show this, like the last race, the most important in his life.

They run a really impressive setup, but it also makes me a little sad that even in karting you need a factory and millions of dollars of equipment to even have a chance of being competitive. The working, middle, and even upper middle class really don't have a chance of being in modern F1, no matter how talented they potentially are.

@@Ryzard Even with all of Verstappen's recent success, Lewis Hamilton still has a higher winning percentage than Verstappen! I'm far from a Hamilton fan, but Verstappen's talents are way over hyped. Do you think Max could win in a non RB car?
@Ryzard
@Ryzard 5 ай бұрын
@@juanesteban8827 I wasn't really making commentary, just finding it funny to see all the older comments going either like "just saw his first race!" or "wow, he's getting good!" while unaware of the future ahead. That aside, yes, Lewis has a higher win% than Verstappen, dunno why that's relevant here though, but I'll go into my thoughts since you asked, hopefully my reasoning makes sense :) TL;DR: (btw no intention to argue here, I just love researching this stuff) I do not think he's over hyped (any more than other comparable drivers), and I don't think the winning percentage is really reflective here, for reasons I will go into. Also, I absolutely could see Max winning outside of Red Bull. He won in cars worse relative to the field than Lewis has had in 2022/3 at times, and was regularly a forward threat in a worse car. Assuming he has a car that can realistically compete for podiums and has a sharpish front, he will be there. Ultimately, the other drivers, TPs, and recruiters all currently value Max at an insane level, and it's hard not to see why. I don't think he's any more overhyped than Lewis himself, to be honest. Is he the second coming of christ? of course not. But he is by no means mediocre, or anything but a top 3 driver, minimum (my other considerations being Lewis and Fernando, though I can see arguments for a couple others on the grid) *(DIVIDER FOR MY REASONING/STATS I LOOKED AT! Some of this was pretty interesting! I hadn't bothered to check the % before!)* Max has been in much worse cars than Lewis has with Toro Rosso, and when he did get to red bull, the car wasn't winning the constructors until he'd been driving for 6 of his 9 years. For LH, that was year 1 (DSQ due to spygate being a different matter) From what I can see, the gap is 31.0% to Lewis, and 29.8% to Max, and that could potentially overturn this year. And that's comparing someone with nearly a decade less experience, and 5 less titles, to the winningest f1 driver in history. The fact that the stats are so close, or comparable at all, is insane to me, and it's really hard to brush that to the side. Lewis has been in F1 since 2007. Out of those years, he has never had a car worse than third best, and he has (arguably) never been the second driver for any significant amount of time, if at all, when it comes to development and continuity. In those 17 years, he's had the best (generally) car in about 9, over half of them, and there are arguments for more or less. Max joined in 2015 with Toro Rosso, the ~7th best car. He only reached the main team part way through 2016, and from there was in a car that was designed around an incumbent and proven race winning driver. Once in that car, he would become the first driver by 2018/19, the car being 3rd in 2017-19, ~250-300 points from Mercedes, and second following that. Obviously, in 2022, this is no longer the case. BUT - He's been in the sport for ~9 years, and so far only 3 have had the best car. So ~50% vs ~33% in terms of car dominance, much less actually being the number one. And Max has driven outside the top 3 cars before, as well, in a sub-seventy point scoring team. That's gonna significantly skew that ratio.
@juanesteban8827
@juanesteban8827 5 ай бұрын
@@Ryzard All valid point. Let me just say from the beginning, I'm not a Hamilton fan. He's incredibly talented and I would take him heads up against Max, in equal machinery, any day of the week. That being said, I think his raw talent as a driver is overrated. I think Sainz is the best pure driver on the grid right now. If you go back and look at the first 4-5 years of Verstappen's career, he got away with a LOT - I swore he'd kill himself or someone else before he won a championship (thankfully I was wrong). It always seemed like the cookie crumbled in Verstappen's favor. When you add to that the adulation he was getting from commentators before he accomplished anything substantial and then the cluster fu_k that was Abu Dhabi and the cost cap violation....I'm not a conspiracy theorist but come on.
@Ryzard
@Ryzard 5 ай бұрын
@@juanesteban8827 I think it's interesting that you say that, actually, because I've heard similar, but I've heard the inverse as well, especially from some of the other drivers and TPs when talking about the drivers. There seems to be a lot of pretty universal respect for both Lewis and Max at this point, though I do agree that to an extent both are overrated, in a way. That's kinda how winning goes, though. That being said, in their current states, I think max sweeps Lewis fairly easily. If you were to send them back to 2020 and before, I'd probably need to lean towards Lewis, but these years have not been kind to him, and I don't think his heart is in it (that, or he's just truly out of his comfort zone in the upper midfield). I generally rate the two drivers similarly. I do find it nice that you gave a shout to Sainz, who absolutely deserves one alongside Alonso, though neither of their stats show it as much as they arguably should (the former more than the latter, but Sainz has also not been around as long) I think that being able to see much in terms of completely objective skill expression is really hard in the world of politics that is f1, and it can be annoying to see drivers that deserve and have the skill to fight for titles, completely unable to do so. While I wouldn't advocate for F1 to be a spec series, I would be really interested to see how the cookie crumbles if it was one. -- On the subject of Hamilton and Verstappen, it's also really interesting your recounting of Max's early career, because it really mirrors how people thought of Hamilton (though ofc Lewis was in a top tier car day one) in terms of how dangerous he drove, and his reputation with the teams/media/stewards. He has also gotten away with a LOT, and I mean a boat load, and both were originally known for being fast but incredibly dangerous (insert Lauda quote here) Similar can be said for drivers like Shumacher, and obviously champions from before him like Senna, who were... More or less complete and total assholes in the car. Alonso too. Around 130R, knowing Michael would break first, because "at times like that, I always remember that Michael has two kids" The key to this pattern is that in most cases, that reputation doesn't really stick once they have experience in a dominant car. You can look at Vettel, Max, Lewis, etc. All of them suddenly started to learn to choose fights, and be a lot more careful, that being in the car that was advantaged to finish in front means you have more to lose in a collision. And then you see where Max and Lewis don't dnf, especially to actual contact, for years. It's also notable that Lewis was absolutely getting hype and love as well, and he had many of his own mistakes in those seasons, both more recent and less recent. Another thing to note with the hype surrounding max was that it was the commentators doing their job. It's like with Leclerc, Hamilton, Sainz, or Norris now. Anyone that seems potentially able to fight Max is hyped up, including Perez in 2023 - because he is winning. Piastri too. Max was in that position, as well as Vettel during 2018, during those first years in his career. He was the challenger keeping things interesting, so he got attention. It's how media will continue to run forever, for better or for worse :s All that being said, again, I rate them fairly evenly, I just think that picking out one stat that will overturn with a lot of leading factors to say one driver is better or worse is a bit uncharitable, and it's hard to really say much definitively because of the gaps in age and teams going back and forth.
