Zareba DC powered electric fence install to protect beehives.

I installed the Zareba 5 mile (.25 Joules output) DC powered fence around my beehives to deter bears. I will be upgrading to the 15 mile version (outputs 1 Joule, recommended for bears)

Usually when putting up the wire you come to a dead end and you hook your gate handles also to an insulated end so the electric current doesn't go in circles, as it will eventually lead to draining your battery and rusting out your ground wire. hope this helps

normal lead acid batteries are not designed to take multiple charges after being run down . a better choice would be agm batteries or deep cycle batteries, and that small battery probably wont hold up well

Your fence is constructed to keep things in , your wire needs to run outside the posts to keep things out. A bear could just lean against your posts and knock your fence over, shorting out your electrical current. Also, your grounding clamps will work OK but they are designed to have the bolt act as the clamping mechanism with the wire being inserted between the rod and the pointy end of the clamp.As the bolt is tightened the wire is pulled tighter and tighter against the rod. Hope that helps as I have lost bees to bears in the past (pre-fence).

Would you mind answering a few questions about your battery setup? Firstly, do you need to cover and protect the battery from rain or snow? And second, does the battery ever get too cold in sub-freezing temperatures and fail to output enough power? I'm thinking of partially burying my battery in a 5 gallon bucket with a waterproof lid, both to keep the water out and protect it from temperature extremes.

I read if you have over 2000v you could have an issue , we ordered batteries for zareba two came have one hooked up no light is flashing, any suggestions for me?

Any issues with the charger getting damaged from water? Just bought one and manual says to put in waterproof encloser.

None so far...I have a few of them and just cover them with 5 gal plastic buckets. Work great!
