To balance things out with mages, mages could use a significant defensive buff. Assuming long range remains, this would would make it so archers do good damage (but glass cannon) and mages have alright damage along with great survivability. You could give mages more defenses to all types of damage or specific types of damage, like counterattack.

They have already attempted this with Tohar and I will say it definitely helps but still archer normal attack and crit rates are nuts

If they changed Indis as they said but didnt and heal around her, a supportive Maggrat, Indis with precision tree would be a hella tanky legion and still deal some decent dmg while also spreading that OP infirm debuff from Indis
