Great video..just started with MODO so this is very helpful. Very interested in Zbrush to MODO and back.

thanks for your amazing tutorial.. would love to see more detailed tricks with modo/zbrush work :) MODO is just amazing and so user intuitive the more you understand its tools

Hi. Topogun have a smooth brush to smooth the topology over the high res mesh. There's something like that in modo?
@EdithsonAbelard9 жыл бұрын
Jeordanis Figuereo Yes there is a smooth option right above Contour and even better you can also use the smooth sculpt brush as well.I'm playing with ZBrush 4R7 but when i'm done I can create a video showing you how to use both methods.

Oh Nice!! Now I feel like I can do all my post sculpting/technical stuff in modo. Maya and max can be a little bit overwhelming (for me). I'm still exploring but I think modo is the way to go. Would be nice if you can do that video for us. Thank you again! PD: The New Zbrush looks awesome! These new box modeling tools...! Have a nice day. :)

Ah! Another stuff that you can show us in a video, when you have the time for that of course ;) Is about how to setup smoothing groups in modo. Would be interesting because I can't find much information about that over here.

Thanks for the video, I'm curious whether you use a tablet for Zurich or just a mouse I haven't used it in ages and found it a bit cumbersome with a mouse.
@EdithsonAbelard10 жыл бұрын
Hey Brett Morgan I use an intuos tablet for all of my 3d work, it just feels more natural. Designing with a mouse is like working with a bar of soap.

Hi Edithson, What's your opinion on 3DCoat? I keep hearing how it's one of the best for UVs and retopology but do you feel the workflow in ZBrush and Modo are sufficient to not justify purchasing 3DCoat? I already have a copy of ZBrush and Mari (kind of overkill for games) but was wondering if 3DCoat will still be something used a little more often than "situationally". PS TYVM for your Modo tutorials. They are really easy to follow and I'm sure a beginner (at Modo) can easily pick them up.
@EdithsonAbelard9 жыл бұрын
+BangBoyxD To be honest the best parts of 3D coat are the uv and auto-retopology tools . But now I don't think any other program can touch #modos uv/topology tools speed and ease of use. Granted #modo doesn't have auto-retopology but you have #ZBrush and you can use decimate and zremesher, which give you great results. You can also use a new open source program called Instant Meshes github.com/wjakob/instant-meshes
@BangBoyxD9 жыл бұрын
+Edithson Abelard First time seeing instant meshes but thanks for the link. Looks like I'll be skipping 3DCoat and Substance Painter since I already have Modo, Mari, and ZBrush for now :]

Whenever I use the topology sketch, I create wide quads and that goes wild and it doesn't snap onto the surface :( not sure what's wrong with my settings
@stephon97210 жыл бұрын
thank you how do you know what number of polygons is suitable for a game character or animation freindly character and you keep refering to the retopology as a cage what is a cage? Thanks
@EdithsonAbelard10 жыл бұрын
Each engine is different, I use unity and they recommend for mobile 300-1500 and for desktop 1500-4000 and for console you can go higher. But i say that with caution, it really depends on the amount meshes and polys the camera has to render. If you have 30 meshes with 100 polys or 1 mesh with 3000. You have to find a good balance for platform and usage. As for animation, it really depends. You want your mesh to have good edge flow, so when it's deformed you don't see random artifacts. Also you want your polygons to be as evenly placed as possible to also limit distortion and keep its form. Cage is actually 2 fold, sometimes when you create retopology meshes you need more accurate bakes. You can use a cage/retopo mesh to tell the bake engine to bake everything the is encompassed in the cage. Also the cage sometimes is used as a stand in for your real mesh during the animation phase. Its easier to animate with a mesh with 15K then 1mil.

Edithson .A -- I would like to see videos on ZBrush from your guidance. Something about the way you explain things make sense. Do you have any Zbrush tutorials. My aim is to take a drawing on a character into ZBRUSH and model it, pose it and color it. I have seen others tutorials but something about how they explain things. It' like trying to understand speaking to owls . LOL sorry but my point is it's not getting through at all. I was over looked in a job because I do not know ZBrush. Oh one thing. You imported into Modo. How did you do it without using that (Go-Z) or whatever that called it back a few years ago.
@EdithsonAbelard10 жыл бұрын
I'm exporting my ztools as an obj and then importing that into modo. Thanks, i'll add some ZBrush videos, I'm working on some unity videos now but after that i'll add more Modo and ZBrush.

Hey man, why are you not getting pissed about symmetry issues? - meshes exported from ZBrush don't have symmetry in Modo - if you run symmetry tool in Modo and try to import it in ZBrush it will import it as a new Tool, instead of reprojecting the details on my old one (just adjusting the topology in Modo a bit), because "Symmetry Tool" changes vertex order or something. anyways... it seems kind of fixed in Modo 901...
