I don't think it is cheating at all. It takes skill to use alphas correctly; If you don't know what you are doing you could just as easily screw your model up instead of improving on it.

The Zbrush one looks way more Natural. but here's the thing about Blender. if you Sculpt in it like Niko "Speedchar" does, it is *SO MUCH BETTER* than pulling super dense lumps of digital clay around, or using Dynotopo. you get a "Feeling" for the shapes much easier.

Zbrush and Blender actually work together well! More like an alternative to Maya rather than ZBrush. Kinda awesome to think though that Blender (which is not a sculpt focused tool) is compared to ZBrush (king of sculpting, no contest). Shows that Blender has come a long way! Nice video!! Subbed.

Agree here. Some functions in Blender are way better than ZB, like being able to scale things like CAD software which I use for jewelry. But there are some tools and talents that only ZB can do...I use both. I'm taking a long break from ZB so I can better learn Blender. What I love about Blender is that I can render my work right there. in the same shed.

If you are new to sculpting, give Blender (free) or Zbrush Core Mini (free) a try. Zbrush is $900. Blender is more powerful than Zbrush Core Mini, however ZBC Mini is super easy to pick up and learn.

It will not be a waste of time. All of the foundational skills you are learning in regards to sculpting will transfer to Zbrush. How to use the brushes in Blender will transfer as well, they will just be called new things. The largest hurdle (other than price) will be navigation and UI.

Everybody is different, but I've had zBrush for many years, and just its UI and navigation has been why I haven't learned it. I've recently started learning Blender (I've been a 3DS Max user for 20 years) and am learning to sculpt in Blender and it is sooooooooo nice and easy (I still can't sculpt but it's no longer the UI or the navigation as the problem, it's just practice). So, I opened up zBrush a couple of times just to see if I felt any more comfortable now I know a bit more about sculpting and the answer was still NO! I STILL feel lost and overwhelmed in zBrush due to its interface, and the many, many buttons and options. Maybe in a few more years time :) AlHowell is right, 100%.
