ZCAM E2: 160p firmware update

I finally got around to testing the new 160p firmware update for the Zcam E2. It's been a treat to play around with. I think the 160p mode is my new favorite mode to film in for slow-motion work. I really love the motion at 160p. Zcam has done a wonderful job with this update.

pretty manageable unless you're using the wide dynamic range mode - then it gets a bit out of hand.

Awesome stuff! Man that full sensor readout high-speed is so tempting. What's your experience been with pushing the grade? I've heard that the noise issues kinda make it tough to push the footage too much.

Thanks man! So if you want full sensor readout at full 4k, the camera still does 120p. When you shoot in 160p mode the sensor is cropped at a 2.40:1 ratio. I haven't had any issues with noise at all, as long as you expose the camera properly. :)

@@LudemanProductions Haha Ouch. Hella crop. Can't complain for that price though! Can't wait to see what happens with their Z-Raw format which should be dropping soon. That could be a whole paradigm shift with B-Raw making some big moves atm. Kinda wonder what editors are even gonna support it. I know Adobe is playing hardball with any ProRes Raw competition out there.

It's actually the color and sparkle pattern of her shirt and not moire. I also messed with the color on the red and green channel so it's bringing out the reds/magenta tones on the shirt.

I don't know - I'm not a fan. Milky shadows, dull tone. I mean, it's a look but it's isn't great for every shot, right? Kids, dogs, summer.... those types of things like color, and shadows, in my opinion.

You have three lenses in your video description, did you use all three of them in it otherwise what lens did you use? Also, many other comments asked if you were handheld or used a gimbal. I would also like to know if you used autofocus :)

Still amazing even in 2023-2024 standard. And even if you crop to make it 16:9 aspect ratio, it still better than most 1080p 120p camera.

Great video. I have a question , I have the fs5ii and love it. As a Fs5 owner. Is the zcam or bmpcc worth switching too? I prefer the Fs5 body, but I am curious how these new sensors stand against the Fs5 older sensor.

The Zcam E2 sensor is waaaay better than fs5ii's... Actually, I might say that the Zcam is a better camera overall. I had own the FS5, now I own a C200, but the Zcam is at most the best of all worlds.

What rules did you follow to keep the noise levels low?

Always expose to the right, use only native ISO and always over expose 1 stop, then bring the brightness down in post again so the noise will be hidden if there is any.

Yea, the highlight rolloff has been about the only thing I can be really critical on. I'm not the biggest fan either. However, at $2000-$2500 i'm more than pleased. The shirt- It's funny, a few people have now mentioned the gray shirt now. Funny enough, it's actually the natural pattern/color of her shirt. I also think my grade is making the pattern on it stick out more. So I can confirm, it's not moire. However, that's not to say that I the camera is completely free from moire. I have seen it come up here in there now when shooting in higher frame rates but it's been very minimal and isolated. It's WAY better than the moire that happens on the fs5.

It's actually the natural pattern of my daughters shirt. I've had a hard time finding any moire' on this camera. And yes, had it bee moire', that would be a deal breaker for me.

Battery life is pretty good. I am using one 4700mhA battery. Camera is operating from noon to evening. But I was not permanantly shooting so at the end of the day I got only 30 min footage recorded. If you have two 4700 mhA batteries it would make it the whole day.
