In the early 90’s plenty Jamaican artist was remixing American R&B.. I doubt they were trying to assimilate to Americans, sometimes the beats and the melody is more comforting to the artists and it’s not just about sounding or being accepted by Jamaicans… this lady does be so caught up with the merging of ppl from different islands… it is 1 love..
