I would like to see an episode where the mane 6 help her with something, or meet who taught her either in a flashback or have the mentor come to ponyville. As for Trixie I find her over rated in the fandom, I don't find her that interesting she is a fun character but I have little respect for her.

I completely agree. I think Trixie is overrated. I also think that people like Trixie aesthetically more than Zecora. But I would love to get some back story on her and where the other zebra's are and why she rhymes. I would also love an episode where they just go visit Zecora without needing her help for once. Kind of crappy friends if they only come around when they need you. But the writers don't take her seriously like Spike or Big Mac. Spike is the comic relief/punching bag and Big Mac is the punch line character. Kind of frustrating.

I like Zecora. She's very wise and would have more purpose to the plot rather then the antagonist. Although Trixie may be more of an important character later on, Zecora would help the ponies willingly instead of making ponies do what she wants from her desire to have attention.

I find Zecora more interesting and am more of a fan of the Zebra than Trixie. This is because of a few things but the most important one is that she is more mysterious. Trixie literally boast about here talents and shows of at least some sort of persona even if it isn't real. While Zecora is very mysterious without even trying. Just her very PRESENCE is a mystery (Like how there are not any other zebras in Equestria).

Zecora is very much one of my favourite characters. I like flawed characters (its why some of my favourite characters are usually villains or bubbly (or considered annoying characters). Too perfect characters usually put me off. But Zecora is like an ageing sage, a mare/zebra with great wisdom. She reminds me very much of Yoda, Gandalf and Spock to some degree. She is the perfect state of calmness and contemplation. No wonder Twilight and the Mane 6 and CMC come to her for guidance.

The fact that Zecora is a zebra gives the air of mystery, and unlike most other earth ponies, and pegasi alike, she is very knowledgeable on magic, whereas most other ponies who know magic well, are unicorns. I find her unique. I enjoy both. Trixie is flawed and imperfect, in a way of speaking, she's normal, she has potential and often makes mistakes but her determination still surprises me, at times.

i personally don't like Trixie very much, but Zecora is one of my favourites! I think Trixie is much younger than the M6 (just became a mare) and that is why she's so competitive. Zecora is much older, and has probably travelled a lot. (i think she was probably born in a distant country, but left because of some conflict, and has lived a more-or-less nomadic lifestyle because ponies don't accept her because she's different (she's very African in influence, even more than just being a zebra, which adds a HINT of racism/xenophobia to the show...cast as a bad quality) i would love a character background story on Zecora.

There are a few hints, towards such 'fears', though it may as well be the diferent adornments, or her over the top knowledge? Still, she is bound to have traveled from beyond the forest, in which she currently resides? What ever is on the other side. Unless she is older then Pony Ville? Considering how she vanich, every time certain individuals appear, she may be in Self-Exale? What if she lived in the Chrystal Empire, or at least had her roots there?

Zecora, for sure. She's always had a dear place in my heart since she was introduced. I think you're right too about how they're characteristically opposites. I would certainly love to see an episode surrounding her origins (or all Zebras for that matter). Trixie's origins would make a neat story too - we get an idea why she has the complex that she does (I'm a sucker for origin stories..). In the end though, even if Trixie is more popular and has much more room for growth than Zecora, reclusive witchdoctor zebra for best pony.

+Matthew cass I can see the similarities in character between Vageta and Rainbow Dash, but only in passing with Trixia. Vageta is arrogant to the point that he pushes himself to exceed all limits and become "the best", much like how Rainbow Dash continues to push herself to become a better flyer, but she's not as arrogant as Vageta. She wants to be the best, but she's not threatened by encountering someone else who is as good at flying as she is.

+Matthew cass I was actually thinking of Rainbow's interactions with Lightning Dust. Lightning Dust showed comparable raw flight ability to Rainbow Dash, but displayed no patience for anyone that can't keep up with her. But Rainbow isn't seen to be threatened by the presence of another flier of comparable skill to herself, in fact she seems to be even more engaged with Lightning Dust when her skills and abilities are displayed. She acts more like Goku in this regard then Vageta. Goku wants a strong rival so that it will continue to push him. I feel something similar applies to Rainbow Dash, she wants to be the best but she knows she'll only get there by pushing herself, and to accomplish that she wants to find other Pegasie that can challenge her and push her.

This was a nice video, I enjoyed watching all the way throughout. I personally like Zecora more as, like you said, she is a wise safe. Similar to the character of Celestia, Zecora is a mentor. Unlike Celestia though, Zecora does not keep secrets, banish sisters, or troll otherponies. Essentially, Zecora's character is perfect in design, and this lack of flaws is exactly why Trixie Lulamoon is more popular

Trixie is simply more fun as an antagonist, with plenty of contrasts to play against. Zecora will never be the antagonist. Even in her debut episode she was the good guy. 'No, Twilight Sparkle, you are the bad guy in this episode. So is all of Ponyville.'

Personally Zecora is the more interesting character. Trixie is a antagonist for a couple episodes here and there, where as Zecora brings about an air of wisdom and knowledge unseen or unknown to Equestria. It may even be possible, that since she knows so much about Magic, she could be from a long forgotten race of Earth Ponies who could cast magic like a unicorn. There's potential that she could have been part of an experimental magical spell, that thrust her into this time and age from either the future or the past. She could be an Alicorn using a disguise spell, or cursed for one reason or another. Could you imagine if her flaw was that sealed away within her was a vile and maliciously evil being! Who, once released would wreak havoc across all of Equestria! A side effect of the spell causes to give her immortality in the sense of Age and Disease. (Can still be killed/murdered) that she brought upon herself to save Equestria at some point... Perhaps even as The Queen of Canterlot. Giving way to reason as to why Princess Celestia and Princess Luna still refer to themselves as Princesses, because they know their Mother is still alive, but cursed... Then you take a look at Zecora's Cutie Mark....Its a spiraled sun. But she doesn't control the sun like celestia, and if she is the mother of Celestia, what would or could a spiraling sun mean? Well, when a Star dies, we know it pulls in on itself, before exploding outwards in a super nova. Perhaps that is the true nature of herself. Her curse, keeps her from enacting her true desire. TLDR: Conspiracy theory talked outta my flank

To answer your questions about Zecora in the beginning, I don't think Zecora is native to Equestria due to here accent and foreign knowledge. I think she set out from here native land, where she was wiser than the others around here, in order to spread her wisdom of the land. Perhaps all the native zebras had knowledge about brews, herbal remedies, and other sorts of foreign knowledge. However, she realized that the only thing that would come of her spreading her knowledge was hatefulness and a lack of understanding from other ponies. She would rather live life in seclusion, only helping ponies who seek out her knowledge, rather than just freely giving away wisdom to any fool she meets.

Personally I'm more of a Zecora fan; since I'm pagan in my personal spirituality and Zecora is depicted as a sort of shaman/medicine-woman, she feels sort of kindred. That and her alchemical knowledge and subtle hints of magical ability, despite not being a unicorn just further adds to the mystery behind the general rules of magic in Equestria. And not holding a grudge towards the ponies despite their unfounded fear of her is an admirable trait. What makes me dislike Trixie is her egotism. Even when she does apologize for pretty much enslaving Ponyville, she still kept her habit of boasting. I DO see some good in her, but she still needs to work on that.

Me too, sort of. Zecora has been one of my personal favorite characters, ever since I knew about her. But I sometimes forget her. I sometimes thing of her as a, 'main/mane hoof' in the show, although she makes small appearences, she still does feel like a 'main/mane character' to me. I believe Zacora is Pagan, and being a Pagan myself we learn the balance of life and that all things happen for a reason at an early age. I was taught to learn from my mistakes and problems rather than suffer or get upset about them. Many things Zacora does is very similar to Paganism. Pagans worship the earth, the elements, moon, and sun and use many different herbs in our practices. We believe all is connected, including ourselves. Yes, most do practice the craft but Pagans never do evil spells or wish harm on others as we believe that it will come back on us three fold. This explains why Zacora never shows a grudge, even when she does get angry at the six for accusing her, she shows great restraint and simply explains herself instead of lashing back at them as you pointed out. Also Pagans love to stay close to nature and feel a deep connection with it. This explains why, despite the dangers of the Everfree Forest, she would rather live there than among ponies who feared or hated her. She a great character for young Pagans to look up to as most are bullied for being a 'witch' or 'devil worshiper' by other kids as I was, when Pagans don't even believe in the Devil or hell.

More fans gravitate towards Trixie cause, without realizing it (as the creation of the character has really been very casual) the writers, with her, made the perfect foil not of Zecora, but of Twilight Sparkle (actually, the only one until the appearance of Sunset Shimmer). They are the opposite in every aspect in which they are not equal. They are both mares, both unicorns, of about the same age. They are the only unicorns in the show whose special ability is magic itself (and infact Trixie's magic powers, aside from Twilight's, are the more varied we see a unicorn use in the show). But one is shy to show her abilities, the other is a boaster. One is integrated, as a student of Celestia, and as a citizen of Ponyville, the other is a drifter. One is full of friends, the other is so obviously alone. One is the student of the Sun goddess, the other has a Moon on her flank (and infact their dualism, if not for the so obvious difference in power between the two, recalls that of Celestia and Luna). But, aside from being Twilight's antagonist, Trixie has qualities that makes her likeable. She is not a coward (as she did not let Snips and Snails alone in front of the Ursa), and she seems to have a moral code (even corrupted by the Alicorn Amulet, her reign over Ponyville was not so terrible. She was even kind to animals. Rarity, influenced by the "inspiration manifestation" spell, made far worse). In effect, in her mind, she is an heroine, and Twilight is a "villain with good pubbicity". Infact, Trixie's defects are those of the mane six. A boaster? Rainbow Dash is. Not accepting to be the second? Applejack, Pinkie and Rainbow does not. Use a magic item to boost her powers? Are we kidding? She loses control of it? Happened to Pinkie, Rarity, the Cutie Mark Crusaders... Had a change in personality? Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, and Twilight did not even need to be corrupted by a magic item (or by Discord) to have one. These ones are all recurring themes. But Trixie succumbs tho them cause she has not friends that could correct her behavior. Trixie is what any of the mane six could have been without friends, and, since friendship is the theme of the show, a character that's so similar to the leading characters, but without friends, is bound to fascinate the public.

They never said on the show that Pinkie was involved in Trixie's getting a job on the rock farm. In fact, Pinkie's reaction to Trixie's statement suggests that she knew nothing about it. After all, she has not been in contact with her family as far as we know.

I like zecorea better. When you first see her she looks meanicing and evil. 'Never judge a book by it's cover' is a rule that I live by, just because someone looks 'different' doesn't mean that they're 'bad'. I have a theory about how Zecora is able to live in Everfree unmolested by its monstrous inhabitants: The Everfree Forest is actually a genius loci, a place with its own mind and spirit, and Zecora bonded with it in a situation similar to the sanctum invocation of Demonreach Island in "The Dresden Files." This makes her far more powerful when inside the confines of Everfree than she is outside of it, and she possesses instinctive knowledge of what's going on inside the forest at any given moment.

I like to think she lives in the Everfree because it both reminds her of home and carries a lot of herbs she uses for potions and basically ingredients for her food, as we've seen her making soup and and stew.

I've always been fascinated by the magical aspects of the show and wondered how it works. Do unicorns generate there own magic or are they like the other two types but with the ability to convert passive magic into usable magic? Are they conducting magic and using their bodies as conduits? Zecora broke the horn rule and used magic without the need for one which leads me to believe that anyone in the mlp universe can be a magic-user through learning practising and Training. It would be cool to see a pegasus or an earth pony use magic the same way a unicorn dose.

Zecora is by far my favorite of the two but I think that likely has something to do with my relating to her through drawing parallels between some of her circumstances and events that have happened in my own life. I myself am an African American so seeing a zebra appear on the show made me insanely happy when she first appeared. The ponies' shunning of her reminded me of the mild racism I've been experiencing for most of my life. I say mild because I only ever had one bully in middle school (it was never physical but still took a heavy toll on my mental/emotional state) and the most prominent experiences I continue to have involve, like Zecora, having my existence utterly ignored. In this way, I immediately connected with her and was so glad with every portrayal of her as an amazingly capable individual. I hope to cosplay her someday.

Very interesting indeed. I particularly liked one point you made on Magic Duel: Trixie is beaten by Twilight in her own game: putting a performance. The fact that Twilight did this would certainly upset Trixie, considering that the last thing she says in Boast Busters is that Twilight may have powerful magic, but she would never be able to outperform her (Trixie). In Magic Duel, Twilight did just that. Trixie, even if she apologized and most likely that was sincere, must also be crumbling on the inside, realizing that Twilight is her superior in every single aspect, be it magic, be it as a performer, or as a pony in general. Trixie must now see what she would do with this new realization, not about Twilight, but about herself. Now, if she apologized that must mean that she has changed in some ways, but her core self still has much to learn, and that is what attracts fans to her even more. Like you said, Zecora is interesting, but as a backstory. We want to know HOW she got where she is, not what she will do with her knowledge and understanding on nature. Trixie is, indeed, her opposite, because we want to know WHAT she will do next. While Trixie may present an interesting backstory as well, it would be just a means of showing where she's heading in any journey of self discovery. Zecora's character seems to point that she already did have said journey of self discovery, and as such, has completed her growth. Her potential is how she got there, not where she's going, Trixie's potential is where she will end up.

The difference between Zecora and Trixie is just like Celestia and Luna. Trixie and Luna are flawed, Zecora and Celestia are nearly flawless.

I beg to differ. Celestia can, at times, be overly judgemental, and sometimes lacks social skills, as was the case with Sunset Shimmer. It seems to me that she does VALUE the redemption of villains, but she lacks the diplomacy and eloquence to bring it about. She's VERY good at planning things out, but not very good at making things happen, which is why all of her plans that rely on someone else tend to work a lot better than the plans that rely on her. On the other hand, Zecora's seeming lack of concern for what others think of her, while it may make her a stronger, more confident character, it's also what was causing her so much trouble before Twilight arrived. Socially, she's just not very perceptive.

Bill lupin i dont think that its a weakness when u r not concerned about what others think of u. i think its more of a high tier social skill, kinda similar to the Thu´um in Skyrim. ok, its not a social skill, but its hard to learn and makes life way easier. i mean, if u dont know what to wear, this is mostly because u r frightened of wearing something the society dont likes. if u can put that fear aside, life is way easier. well ok, thats just the opinion of someone who way born with this skill (kinda like the Dovahkiin in Skyrim), so yeah.

In the journal of the two sisters its all explained that zebras live just outside Equestria on the other side of the ever free forest. They fear outsiders and I think that Zecora might be an exile or she might just be a very curious about ponies in general since they were scared of Princess Luna because of how different she was

I think you pretty much hit it right on the money. I love Zecora and all, but she is doesn't really have any flaws to play with. Although her mysteriousness does have a lot of potential. Trixie however, being so flawed and uncomfortable with herself makes her really fun to play with and watch. Plus Trixie is kinda adorable.

zecora is actually the character i enjoy more than trixie. i can see a lot of potential in zecora as far as her origins and maybe diving into her past. trixie... she comes of as a twit and really of a snob, thus making her unappealing. i think that zecora has some faults sitll that the writers have yet to really show us. i find zecora more appealing because i can relate to her more and i understand what it's like to be different and honestly it's the people like trixie i got harrassed by growing up. so trixie is unappealing to me for this reason she acts like the stereotypical twit popular girl wannabe in high school... and that's... not really cool but everyone loves her because everyone wants to be with her or to be her.

It hadn't occurred to me before that while Zecora was a complete outcast and nopony was ever willing to even talk to her, she was still practising an entirely altruistic profession. She had nopony to cure with her potions, nopony to help with them and yet she kept making them and, I assume, stockpiling them for years. Perhaps she lived with the hope of one day being accepted and having someone to share her talents with, in which case the blue joke incident may have been her happiest day since she moved there.

I really like Zecora as a character. I've never been that big a fan of Trixie but she does have her moments. With Zecora, if they introduced somepony from her past maybe we could have an episode about her. Though that does seem unlikely since she is just a recurring character and not one of the main six.

I actually prefer Zecora. Her stories could come about in flashbacks in order to help the Mane Six, so there is still some potential in story building. As far as flaws we see that when she would come to town and the shops were all closed up, she simply left. Instead of doing anything about it. She also got reasonably angry when the mares barged in her home, destroyed her things, and accused her of witchcraft. She has a lot of potential. I personally like the variance in character and I love how, at least to me, she seems to poke fun at the misunderstandings by dressing up AS a witch and scaring ponies in the episode 'Luna Eclipsed '.

ChannelFederator once said that Zecora was going to be a mentor figure for the whole Mane 6, but since animation requirements could allow about 1/3 of the episodes to be in the adventure genre, that was scrapped.

zecora is my favorite because when i first met her in the show she was a zebra. an animal never referenced in the show before. honestly i did miss the first appearance of her now i have to see it. the first time i saw her i believe was when rarity had the photo shoot anyways, i love trixie because she is an interesting character that does have potential. her relationship with starlight is good for both of them. yet, zecora is a mystery kind and wise knowing things other ponies don't know, i find interesting. honestly i wish the mlp writers could write a villain or antagonist which ever they prefer for zecora. maybe the reason she is so wise and knows so much is because someone she cared about made the wrong choices or maybe zecora in her younger years made the wrong choices and someone she cared about suffered. i would love to see a backstory for zecora just to see if she truly is developed or does she have her own journey to finish. excellent video by the way. could you please do a video on discord and fluttershy being a couple or staying as good friends thanks

I don't know if I like either character more than the other. I have a certain degree of fondness for both, but they're both around so rarely that I don't think about them all that often. When they make an appearance I'm usually intrigued, but then I go back to not thinking about them often. Unfortunately, Trixie has been absent from the show since Magic Duel, aside from that obscure background appearance in The Cutie Remark, which doesn't really count since she has no other role in the episode. Zecora has been around, and she is pretty cool in the season 5 finale, but I think you're right that we haven't seen much character growth from her. Trixie has gotten some in the spinoff media. In Rainbow Rocks she was treated as a walking joke, but in the comics she has actually been reformed to a more honest stage performer who still sometimes runs into trouble, but who's willing to seek help from the mane six. Her appearance in the chapter books so far has been iffy at best and I'm actually a little weary of her upcoming book, but at least Trixie lives on in B canon material.

Zecora has always been one of my favored characters as personality wise I can relate to her on many levels as opposed to the other characters in the show. Where as Trixie is more of an annoyance to me as shes my polar opposite. I've never gone to comparing the two but your right on the bulls-eye.

Both is fine with their own mysteries... But I think Trixie has more to offer... Both of their past is still unknown, but Zecora is finished with her "Journey" and Trixie still isn't there... For Zecora, she seems to know more things even though she lives in seclusion... Where did she learn this stuff? Is this self-taught or does it run in her family? Are all zebras like this? For Trixie, she has an ego that needs fixing... What are the things she will go through to fix this? What will she do about them? What will be her emotions about them? What kind of a pony will she be after? And she also seems to be lacking in magical ability and has a void to fill... Why is she lacking in magic? What caused this void? Why does she need so much attention? Why the ego? Is it because of childhood problems?
