Can I use this camera without setting it up on a mobile phone - as a stand alone trail camera? I just need to put it in my polytunnel to see what rodent is getting inside overnight.

If it won't run with 1.2v NiMH AA then it's not worth it and not serious. Brownings and the cheap Chinese brands can.
