I just have to say that this IS the best video tutorial on starter replacement. Most people talk too much or they show the end result first and they try to explain how they did it which is garbage. Thank you for taking the time to explain and show how to properly do everything to replace this difficult piece, I highly appreciate it. 👍

3 minutes in the videos and he's still talking an not yet explain so I would say yes he still talks a bit too much. Ppl want to get right to replacing. Nothing else. If they want to trouble shoot they'll kook up that. But when we look up starter replacement just get right to it without the 3 minutes of un wanted explanation.

Just did this today. Thank you! It truly is 99%of the time an N51/N52 engine fails to start. I really hate that PCV pipe in the back near the firewall. Damn that was so difficult, pushing it from the back while pressing down the top while pulling it helped out a lot. Now I understand how BMW connectors work. All I have to say is tearing this engine down to expose the valves really shows the quality of the plastic parts. My 328i has over 135k and all the plastic connections click nicely. I got to see all the intake valves and they are pristine! I’m thankful that this engine is port injected. The design and construction of the N51/N52 is 👌

Great video and appreciate all the detailed steps. On my 2010 e90 328i, I hear one click when I press the start button. The battery is good and there are no codes on the diagnostic tool. Could this be the starter? I’m thinking the starter solenoid may not be engaging the starter. Or maybe a relay if there is one.

Hi Tim. I always enjoy watching your instructional videos. Although I have an x5 E70 it was still good watching this whole video too because the symptoms part has given me reassurance that it is the starter. I just found it strange that my no crank, no click, no start issue just happened suddenly with no pre warning sign. Just curious but is it absolutely necessary to remove the throttle body and those frame side bars and plastic stuff below the windshield or do you just do it to have extra space to carry out the work? Thx. for sharing.👍

@@Zeiten Hi Tim. Thx for the reply. I just went to check the battery's voltage using the hidden menu on dash and when I first put in the fob and pressed start button without depressing the brake I got a warning about "high battery drain when vehicle stationary". This is the first time I ever got this message and battery is 11.7 v. This could have happened because over the past 2 days on checking various potential causes of no crank no start issue I checked the KL30g fuse in the rear, CAS fuses and possible ground problem and tried a number of times to start the X5 but nada. I could have unintentionally drained the battery in the process. Last thing I am going to do is have a friend come over tomorrow with a generic scanner to check what fault codes there could be before I likely will have to accept that it is the starter. Your videos are a great help for me to do the starter motor replacement. I'll do the replacement in 2 days after I get a new Bosch starter. Is this a common problem with the more recent BMW's ? I have owned at least 3 older BMW's, Jeep, VW, Rover, Volvo, Renault, Ford etc over the past 40 years and never once had to replace a starter. Luckily, the only good thing is that it happened at home and not elsewhere. Thx again for sharing. Your videos are the best.

I replaced a starter in a 2011 328i convertible that finally went out in a grocery store parking lot. It took about 6 months from first noticing labored start. I also changed out the crankshaft sensor while I have the intake manifold off. Now I’m getting a long crank with start. It starts every time, just takes a bit to fire up.
