While the Japanese sub is just as perfect, I feel like Zeke saying “I’m so sorry” instead of “it’s a shame” to colt makes it not only sound more sincere but has a bigger emotional impact

Yeah it’s a shame comes off as far less sincere and far more cold and calloused. That’s not how Zeke was, he genuinely felt sorry because he really cared about Colt and Falco, but he also knew that he couldn’t let that sway him. So the I’m so sorry was truly genuine, “I’m so sorry, I truly care about you but my mind is already made up and not even you two can change that” essentially.

"it's a shame" is just a quick English translation of the Japanese word in Kanji 残念(ざん‐ねん). The literal translation of it is "remnant thought" or "remnant feeling" which can be used in the situation of saying "it's a shame". If the subtitle uses the literal translation, you wouldn't understand what was going on. And now, you catch the rough meaning but lose some subtle touch of the word. This is truly the language barrier that no translation can overcome but also why this world is so much more beautiful with different cultures and languages.

It’s Zeke screaming still. The English version adds an effect to all titan roars and screams, making them louder and more alien than the Japanese version. It’s about the one thing the dub actually does better (the Japanese roars sound kinda goofy) this is about the only time where it kinda backfires.

This scene had me fucked up. Like I knew Zeke was going to do this no matter what, but it was brutal to see him sit there and listen to Colt beg, knowing he truly did care for both of them like sons. His mind was made up unfortunately for Colt. At least Falco got the Jaw Titan out of it and at least gets another 13 years of life. Even if you hate Gabi (which I don’t understand after she comes to her senses, is repentant, and saves the lives of multiple of the “devils”), I think everyone can agree that Falco has been a genuinely good kid from the start. He’s been kind, understanding, resourceful, logical, and he doesn’t let the hive mind away him. He was extremely quick early on to understand the only reason they were attacked is because they attacked Paradis first. So it was really sad (and MAPPA did an amazing job) to see that scene of Colt holding him as he reached out to Gabi in what seemed to be his final moments, before he because a Pure Titan. I haven’t read the manga so that whole thing and Porco allowing himself to be eat was a pretty intense moment for me.

It is because in a way it shows that Zeke truly respects Colt and appreciates the care he has for Falco, so it felt like while he did respect Colt to hear him all the way through, he really didn’t want to hear it in the first place. There wasn’t going to be a cease fire, so this was Zeke’s only opportunity to guarantee that his plan works.

Two Brothers is probably my favorite episode of AOT. Just so much crazy and depressing shit goes down. Zekes roar, Falco transforming and killing Colt and Porco, Eren’s hardening and dash for Zeke, the PATHS convo with Zeke and Eren. It’s all so fucking good. This scene and Gabi blowing Erens head off are something I always go back to. The decapitation scene was so crazy first watch through, back when I thought Eren was going to go a different route with the founders powers. Making this fast break with intense music playing and shit going on all around, Zeke screaming “we’re almost there!” and I’m like “holy shit he’s gonna make it!” And then boom Gabi just eviscerates his neck and his head goes flying. My jaw was on the floor. With this scene though, I knew that it was a majorly bad idea on Colts part to try and reason with Zeke, even knowing that Zeke cared for them both. Zeke was not about to risk dying moments away from being able to complete his life’s mission, no matter the cost. But I was really hoping that Colt would at least run away instead of holding Falco. It was depressing to see him burnt to a crisp. It was extremely cool though to see the third impact like bolts of lightning from transformations all over Shiganshina. Two Brothers is a 20/10 episode for me.
