This is the coolest thing ever :'D P.S. About the magical shield I think the standard shield looked huge already so they wanted to make a distinction. But I think this big shield should have been the magical one and the small shield should have looked super small in the beginning like a buckler. I dont mind the tunic instead of a ring though. But nobody who plays this would be confused what the ring does. About the bomb spot and tree hints. I think in the Doom environment you need those otherwise you get totally lost. It is hard to find them at all even though they are marked.

It would have been cool if they added secret dungeon with a bunch of Doom monsters. Maybe in that dungeon you could get a Doom weapon as well. All optional of course.

Yeah, I agree, it would have been nice to have it be more of a hybrid between Doom and Zelda. I think someone should take this idea and build on it. Fix up the map and the items. Maybe make some more projectile weapons that could be used. It would be nice if you could do the Brutal Doom mod with this as well.

I love that people are still making Doom stuff, good to see this mod got finished even if a little buggy. Just a tip for the future though, you can pause the game while you are looking at the map and it's also possible to turn off the map rotation so that north is always north. Kind of a hassle since you have to rebind stuff, but the options are there

Personally i thought the Doom Zelda mod was a cool idea and very interesting, obviously it could have been better but the same thing could be said for practically any game or mod, i think the developer did a damn good job on it.

1:05:15 I mean, there's a major difference there, in the overworld you have basically infinite choices of where to bomb, which takes forever and is fucking stupid. In the dungeons however, you only have a maximum of four spots per room where you can potentially bomb, so there isn't a need for any cracks there.

I think the reason some walls have cracks and some don't is because the ones with cracks are in the hub world, so like the discolored bushes they're meant to help people because the landscape can be confusing? Also, did anyone else notice that the pause screen has the sprite of Link holding the original templar shield? Lol maybe these things were mentioned, i usually watch these when playing games on my laptop or when im laying down to sleep but i thought I'd mention these. Also, can anyone tell me why it's two rhyming _Zora's_ who say "Aquamentus sent us" in Mike's joke? I've heard him tell the joke before and googled Aquamentus and Zora's but couldn't find any relation. I thought i was a Zelda fan but I feel like not understanding this makes me a noob lol

Is the pause issue due to the Doom engine constraints? ie: when you go into the map on Doom, its not a paused state, it remains in a 'live' state? I'm no programmer 😂 and not sure if this can be patched out. Any other instances on any other mods?

I think the constant respawning of the enemies was the real problem. Also, isn't the map system utilized here the same as in DOOM? It should've had a guide on where North is.

I don't know but I wish the default settings for it just worked right. You can probably fix it if you know the right setting to change I'm sure. But I feel like.. just make it the default.

@@mikematei Seems like the creator really wanted to emulate that DOOM experience. I don't know, maybe with sufficient testing and feedback, he would've come to the conclusion that pausing the game when looking at the map should be the default setting.

I think map issues is just a problem with doom engine. I don't think you can lock it in place or pause the game on a map screen without breaking the game (since map is showing your position in real time). Maybe with heavy updates in the code, but it can require literally rewriting the whole engine.

Since I already saw most of this stream, I pondered something: -Have you already played or what would you think of a DOOM hack/mod where the enemies respawn after a certain time? Of course, this may happen in the later regular Doom games but since I am unfamiliar with DOOM overall, I wouldn't know about respawning enemies.

Enemies eventually come back to life in the hardest difficulty, there's an enemy called Archvile that brings dead enemies back to life, and there's an enemy called Pain Elemental that generates enemies called Lost Souls which are firey skulls that chase you around. I think that's all, although this is mostly Doom 2 stuff.

The cracked walls, burnable bush hints, tunic instead of a ring, shield changes, the changed enemy sprites, 10 starting bomb capacity instead of 8, and patra in lv 7 instead of aquamentus come from a rom hack of the NES game called "Zelda Redux", a hack that aims to modernize the experience. But there's optional patches you can apply to reverse any of those changes while keeping the other quality of life changes. It's really customizable which is great for a hack. It's interesting to see those features here in this Doom hack. EDIT: Also in that hack, the whistle can also kill Pol's Voice enemies
