Hello! April has been a hectic month, and between preparing for a concert, trying to make album headway, and boring businessy stuff, it has been super busy.
So I thought it would be a great time to come up with a beginner harp arrangement! It's a bit less time intensive and I honestly love coming up with harp resources for students because I think it's so exciting when someone just starting with the instrument can already play a song they know and love.
Lost Woods/Saria's Song was the winner of the community wall poll I posted a couple weeks ago, so that's why I chose this one this month. I wrote the early intermediate version first, with a broken triad and open fifth accompaniment and plenty of time for the left hand to reset and figure out what's next.
But then I thought, well, this might still be to hard for some students. I get so annoyed as a teacher when I'm looking for an arrangement for a student and see something labeled "easy", when it's actually not that easy at all. So I added a beginner version as well to really simplify the left hand so that even someone just getting into playing hands together can give it a go.
And both versions are included in the sheet music so you can always start with one and grow into the other!
The beginner arrangement doesn't go lower than the C below middle C; the early intermediate version goes down to the G below that. There is one lever change (and then returned to the original position) in the early intermediate version, but it is optional and easily left out if needed.
Of course, it can sometimes be hard to find an arrangement that suits you just right, so having the skill to alter an arrangement can be super useful! That's why I've reopened my Arranging for Harpists course - you don't need to know music theory, all you need is to be able to read sheet music and play with both hands. Even knowing how to make minor modifications to make something a little easier or harder can really make a huge difference when working with existing arrangements!
