I know Skyward Sword is a pretty controversial title, but I still think it has one of the best stories and probably the most compelling versions of Link and Zelda. It's one of the few games where I feel like Link actually has a personality, and his genuine love and affection for Zelda come through in every scene they share. SS Zelda, as well, is just a delight, and I appreciate that this game takes her on quite the journey of her own. Much of it occurs off-screen of course, but I think it's handled well enough to be coherent and emotionally effective, regardless.

Because he WAS late If Impa didn’t show up when she did, Ghirahim would have gotta a hold of her and thus Demise would be reborn It’s an innocent mistake on Link’s part and he did his best to get there but that doesn’t matter because in the end he didn’t make it, and it could have led to disaster were it not for Impa. Impa gives it to him straight because Link needs to realize what’s at stake. Ik Link is silent to be a stand in for the player but this game gave him some characterization. For example Grose called him out about how because his skyloft bird was special he didn’t feel the need to put in hard work like he did, even if he was a bully, he’s right, pointing out how Zelda’s always backing him up, which she does, she’s always the one waking him up when he sleeps in and even voices her concern to her dad about Link participating in the ceremony because he hasn’t been putting in any practice and shes worried about him because of it. And at this point, Link isn’t really taking this as seriously as he should. Yes he is taking it seriously because he’s chasing Zelda, but he doesn’t realize what is at stake if he fails, meanwhile Impa does know what is at stake and takes her role seriously because of it which is why she chastises Link because it’s what he needs to hear.

I agree with the other commenter, I think Impa *wanted* to frustrate Link into self-reflection to ensure that he commits to his path, recognizing that no one else can do it but him, & he won’t be useful until he’s a fully actualized hero of the Goddess!

When people tell me that Tears of the Kingdom Zelda and Link are closer than these two, even though TotK Zelda doesnt flirt with Link, like, AT ALL and that Link shows ZERO emotion. The start of the game was literally her showing interest the entire time and defending him at times while the rest of the game was Link worried asf about her ad shows genuine concern for her well being. TotK Link had the same face the entire game like "Ah shit, here we go again."

Well to be fair they live in the same house and even share the same bed in TotK, I don't think two person can get any closer than that lol. Though I agree that Link is way more expressive in SS (and there's actually a reason why he isn't as expressive in TotK) I think both TotK and SS Zelink are the best and the most obvious ones. To me, TotK Zelink has this "married couple" vibe, they don't flirt with each other but you KNOW they're in love and care about each other (plus living in the same house bit), and SS Zelink is like these two teenagers in love.
