I had a music teacher who said "music is God's Language on Earth" when you hear composers like Zelenka or Bach you know this is the truth...

I've always thought Zelenka deserved to be numbered among the greatest geniuses of western music. History may one day allow for this. Much of his music is in a league of its own, without peer. Bach recognized his greatness in the sphere of sacred music; these trios are absolutely ingenious, and like Bach, his counterpoint thoroughly satisfies both the cerebral intellect and the aesthetic soul of the listener. Zelenka is a wonderful, first-rate composer of incomparable musical tapestry.

Zelenka is truly an amazing find for all baroque lovers. I think he is the only composer who is able to rival J.S. Bach in depth (many people will disagree with me), and his counterpoint is flawless. Another great thing about Zelenka is his unpredictability. I think his music is so exciting! You never really know what he's going to do, but when he does it, it's perfect. He was a genius and warrants a much greater exposure than he currently has. His sacred music is second to none.

He certainly bears very favourable comparison with Bach, even if he has his very own idiosyncrasies. Bach, Handel and Telemann are all masters; Zelenka is a master among them.

Zelenka tiene además mucho cromatismo en lo cual impacta mucho con su contrapunto perfecto

and thanks to Jalapablo for leading me here! I followed your "like" ~ I thought I had heard a lot of little known Baroque composers, but Zelenka is new to me. Truly, he needs more recognition.

i love the heavy bass sound and the precision of the oboes and bassoon. the instrumental writing is very interesting and virtuosic, with beautiful chromatic harmonies. this is a brilliant piece.

The yackers Zelenka throws never fail to make my jaw drop, like at 2:20..... If there's anything more fun the listening to Zelenka, it's watching really good double-reed players perform this stuff: eyebrows going berserk!

I love this piece! I have been playing in the Coastal Youth Symphony of Georgia for a few year and The first oboist, the first bassoon, and me (second oboe) are playing this. I love it and it just has so emotion!

Zelenka is one of the most grotesquely neglected composers in history.
@polymath79 жыл бұрын
Opus 32 There are some contrapuntal loose ends. I don't think he resolves phrases and "ties them off" as adroitly as Bach, but he's still _damn_ good. Dittersdorff should be forgotten and Zelenka remembered.
@jasonpuppet78039 жыл бұрын
polymath7 i think that was the (counter) point....he was trying to avoid the resolution style of bach
@hexag14419 жыл бұрын
+Jason Puppet Or because he wasn't as skilled as Bach in this area. His work doesn't have the structural architectural genius of Bach, though it's close.
@polymath79 жыл бұрын
+Adenosin I I agree, but it's close enough that he deserves to be much better known.
@hexag14419 жыл бұрын
polymath7 Undoubtedly. He's up there with Bach, Handel, Scarlatti etc....but there are other ones who should be more well known I think. Caldara, Lotti, Rameau, Weiss etc...

Did even Bach himself write so demandingly for the bassoon? Zelenka 's trio writing is the only I've heard to approach Bach's complexity.Not even Handel's trios, though utterly charming, are as intricate.
@alexhodge53278 жыл бұрын
Well, intricate doesn't mean better. Corelli wasn't intricate, but his music is sublime (in a pleasant, soothing way). Simplicity is an underrated virtue.

Yes and it shows that Zelenka, unlike Handel, was very much the equal of J.S. Bach
