Zelensky stresses need for more air defences in Kharkiv

The sorely needed new US weapons package has started to arrive in Ukraine and more is on its way, Antony Blinken, the US secretary of state, said during a visit to Kyiv this morning.
“In the near term, assistance is now on its way and that will make a real difference against the Russian aggression on the battlefield,” Mr Blinken told Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ukrainian president, at the start of their meeting.
Mr Zelensky lauded the “crucial” US aid and asked Mr Blinken for two air defence batteries for the north eastern city of Kharkiv, which is being pummelled by Russian air strikes. Air defences, he stressed, are their biggest deficit.

The status quo is for NATO to send enough aid to Ukraine to keep the war going. Politicians love foreign aid because the bulk of the money is actually funneled to their political supporters in their home countries. Russia is using the war to clear out their Soviet baggage, and Putin doesn't care how many Russian soldiers it takes to do so. What Putin expects by the end of this war in Ukraine is a stronger and more modern Russian military that can, first retake the former Soviet states, and then after that, with such a powerful loaded gun, go beyond. Eventually, the status quo will no longer be sustainable, and there will be a war between NATO and Russia. With China gearing its military up to be able to invade Taiwan as soon as 2027, we are likely to see WWIII within this decade. Despite fears of nuclear war, I predict most of the fighting will be done with conventional forces.

@tyman14 Russia's military and politicians have already stated on public videos of their intent to annex former Soviet states, and Putin's own history shows he wants the lands of the former USSR reunited. Any other claims are a smokescreen for Russia's ambitions of conquest. The have shown this pattern with taking parts of Georgia, Crimea, Donbas, and now the rest of Ukraine. They aren't stupid. They knew NATO was on the verge of collapse before this war. What Putin didn't expect was to revitalize NATO with this war.
