If all you want is to connect the specific zemismart zigbee devices that work with the M1 matter bridge to Apple home, then, yes, you can save a few bucks by using their HomeKit hub ZMHK01 instead. And you will also get Alexa integration cloud to cloud. What the M1 matter bridge would give you in addition to that is the ability to connect locally to SmartThings or other matter controller platforms. Whether that’s of any value to you or not just depends on your own needs.

Thanks for the support! I currently use the EcoNet Bulldog Water Valve Robot in my home. They make a Z-wave and a wifi version. You need a Z-Wave hub to use the Z-wave version (I currently have mine paired to Homey Pro). The wifi version would require homebridge since there is no native HomeKit support. There are a number of generic zigbee water valves, like the one seen in this video, that would work with this hub and give you homekit support. Isn’t the self-healing mesh network superior to bandwidth-killing other methods of wireless communication in a home with a large number of wireless devices?
@AndrewClement Жыл бұрын
The only really downside to Thread is it can only do low bandwith communication. So things like Cameras dont work well. It is basically Zigbee, but better. They added multi-hub and self healing. IMO Matter over Thread is the best for going for new device, its just earily days on the market. For example I cant find matter over thread light switch without needing a netural.

@jdroberts982511 ай бұрын
Many eero devices can add vanilla Zigbee 3.0 devices, the same selection that you can add to the Amazon echo models with a built-in zigbee hub. However, they cannot handle Zigbee devices that use manufacturer proprietary code, which includes most Tuya Zigbee devices. And they can’t bring the Zigbee devices into Apple home. You pretty much have to handle them in the Alexa app. So the answer is yes, but probably not in the way you were thinking. @@ShaneCreates you don't need a Home Hub to use Siri or the Apple Home app. WiFi and Bluetooth devices will work without a Home Hub. Now Apple says to connect to Matter enabled Thread devices you need a current home hub, which made sense so far since we didn't have such a hub from a third party provider. Also for automations and out of home control, an apple home hub is required. The matter spec allows for devices to be added into multiple controllers and those controllers to be controlled by multiple apps. Now I don't know how this would work out and if those features are already available or not in the current specs and implementations. It'd be cool to see if you can get the Thread devices from the Zemismart hub into Apple Home and then see if they still work in a test setup without an Apple Home Hub. I highly doubt it tbh, but it'd be a cool test. If that doesn't work, could you check if it at least acts as a Thread border router or since it is it's own controller it won't be used in such a way within the Apple controller Thread network?
@ShaneCreates Жыл бұрын
@@thmo_ True you don't need an Apple HomeKit Hub to use the app, but if you want to control any of your accessories remotely using the Home app/siri, use any thread accessories, or create HomeKit automations, you will need a HomeKit hub. At 5:53 I covered adding thread devices to this hub. As mentioned, the Thread devices do not currently get exposed to HomeKit. Same thing applies to Matter over Wifi devices. The only devices that get exposed to HomeKit through the hub are the zigbee accessories. I covered a lot of what you are asking about in the thread chapter and the last two chapters of the video. It does act as a Thread Border Router and creates it's own thread network, similar to most of the Matter controller hubs that I've used/tested. Hope that helps.

@@davescott8352 those hubs are overpriced, although they are very functional. I don't understand what is the point of making a THREAD hub... One of the goals of thread is to replace the ZigBee hubs. The companys just figured a way to use the old method to make profit... What is the point of thread if not the all individual smathome devices are using the same protocol.
@jdroberts982511 ай бұрын
The point of thread is that it’s a low power mesh network, very suitable for battery powered Home Automation devices. Unlike Zigbee, thread uses IPV6 addressing, which makes it very easy to connect to other protocols like Wi-Fi using the same addressing method. Thread doesn’t need a hub, but it does need “thread border routers“ if you want to be able to reach it from outside its immediate network. The zemismart m1’s primary purpose is to act as a “matter bridge” to bring some specific Zemismart Zigbee models over to another Home Automation platform. It is becoming common these days for device manufacturers to add thread border router capability to their Zigbee hubs. That’s what this model is. A Zigbee hub with thread border router capability.
