Musashi is such a legendary figure! I really enjoyed the video dispite the loudness of the music I found distracting. I hope you take no offence. Have a safe journey.

Indeed, we can learn a lot from what Musashi , incorporated Zen philosophy, had accomplished. Thank you for your comment and feedback. We’ll take it for our future productions 👍

So, it is alright to use the teachings of the Buddha to obtain "no mind" even to kill? Isn't this use of Zen used by the Imperial army during WW2?

Thank you for your thought-provoking questions. The concept of "no mind" (Mushin) in Zen Buddhism is about achieving a state of mental clarity and freedom from distracting thoughts, which can enhance one's ability to respond to situations with equanimity and presence. However, it's crucial to understand that the teachings of the Buddha emphasize compassion, non-violence, and respect for all living beings. The historical context you mentioned, where Zen teachings were used by the Imperial army during WW2, is indeed a controversial and complex topic. While some individuals may have interpreted and utilized these teachings in ways that justified violence, this was a distortion of the fundamental principles of Buddhism. In essence, true Zen practice is about fostering inner peace, compassion, and wisdom, which are inherently opposed to causing harm to others.

@@zen_concept This is the best and most Buddhadharma aligned answer to such question/issue. While others (which I read and even heard from other Zen practitioners) make excuses for the atrocities done in the past in the name of Zen, we must bear in mind that killing is one of the precepts that is prohibited in Buddhism because it violates ahimsa (not harming others/oneself). Thank you for being truthful in your answer. 🙏
