If I'm not mistaken, Zendee and her family became homeless at one point and had to spend their nights sleeping at a fire station. During daytime though, she had to find elsewhere to hang out since it was a working fire station & they weren't probably allowed to stay. So since she loved singing, there were times when she would visit this mall store which sells karaoke related stuff and sing her heart out since it was free. It was fortunate for her that a video of her doing so was recorded and uploaded on the internet and went viral. She then got discovered and was signed to a contract. She also got noticed and invited to the Ellen Degeneres show. I love the soul on Zendee's voice.

Hahaha... That's exactly the same reaction I had upon learning about it but that's what i got from the interview with Zendee when I watched her become a guest on Ellen's show. You can search it under Zendee Rose Tenerefe with Ellen DeGeneres on youtube. The video quality's not so good though. By the way, since you're into searching good artists that haven't made it yet to the limelight, might I suggest John Saga covers of "All I Ask", "Gravity" & "Lay Me Down". I was skeptical when I first saw the thumbnail of his videos but I was pleasantly surprised upon listening to his renditions. I usually wear headphones to optimally appreciate the tone of his voice. He sounds a bit similar to Sam Smith. And I liked the way he changed things up to add his own twist but not to the extent that the song loses it's original identity. He's not your typical all out belter but I think his falsetto and the runs he does makes him worth checking out. :)

Zendee became popular when her video singing a karaoke in a mall went viral in the Philippines. Then Ellen de Generes invited her to sing to her show. That's all there is to it. She's not a celebrity singer but I think she's very talented though. Like Bunot and Zendee, there are a lot of talented Filipino singers who aren't celebrity but are popular in social media.

Her complete name is Zendee Rose Tenerefe. She is 25 and originally from General Santos City, located south in the Philippines and where Manny Pacquiao was originally from. I agree that the track was indeed a bit fast. But you gotta give her props for adjusting and not skipping a beat. She's also a belter BTW. She was known as the "Random Girl" when someone took a video of her singing "I Will Always Love You" to a karaoke machine in a mall and uploaded it here on KZbin. That video went viral which sparked interest in her which also led for her to be invited by Ellen Degeneres to her show in the USA. ☺️

She is from Gensan (same place where Manny Pacquiao is), there is a singing competition here called Gensan Pop Idol, she competed during the 2006 batch but didn't got the title, she was one of the finalist though. She did a karaoke singing one time inside a mall, someone uploaded a video of her doing that and that was her ticket to the Ellen DeGeneres show She was our celebrity judge for the 2016 Gensan Pop Idol just this month during the Tuna Festival of Gensan

Yes, I have to agree, although we Filipinos understand English, words and phrases don't necessarily have the same emotional value as they would for native English speakers. I like moments when she starts slightly flat and then squeezes the tone back to pitch, it's a nice touch. There are a lot of great new vocal artists cropping up these days but the industry might not have space for all of them. If Regine V. was the 1st generation (of belters), Sarah and Jona would be 2nd, these young ones would be the 3rd (let's include KZ since since she just came into the scene). But Sarah, Charice, Jona are still working on sustaining their careers, their producers and agents have and still are investing in them big time. The 3rd gen are coming fast and furious but there just aren't enough composers, TV networks, or recording companies left to invest yet, which is too bad, but that's how it is. Thank God for KZbin, everyone is (just) now getting some international exposure, and who knows, some producer somewhere someday might finally take notice. Charice was like a pilot case that launched to some heights, until of course she had to contend with her new identity, but considering where she's from and where she's been, I think hers is still a success story. Thanks to reactors like you guys, talents from my country get recognized, it's very gratifying to see how non-Filipinos from every corner of the world are able to appreciate and enjoy what our country has to offer. You ask where she is from and why she's relatively unknown compared to others you mentioned? That's because she is from the South of the Philippines. Wish 107.5 is an outfit based in the Metro Manila area, way up north. So many great singers from across the Philippines but mostly people in the National Capital Region or Metro Manila area gets the exposure as this is where the national government and basically everything else (major media networks, economy, politics) are centered. Hoping, the new President will push thru federalism in the country and break the monotony and monopoly of the corrupt and biased North.
