I've always played melee with my friends, then I came across this smash documentary featuring these guys among others, and I thought I wanted to try playing that way... after a week of "learning" advanced skills, I still barely manage to beat lvl 9's and can not at all output any fraction of the precision and skill these guys show...how they manage to move like they do, i just can't say. This game is freakin' hard to master at any decent competitive level

ull have to play against other good players, not just cpus. u will never get even close to their level playing against cpus since even if u can beat lvl 9 cpus, u are only learning to adapt to cpu style and will get dominated against real players
@VincentPrice11110 жыл бұрын
Devin Laciturn If you're referencing M2K who is basically the poster boy for that, he literally studied thousands of hours of technical shit like frames and everything. He was and probably is still completely obsessed with perfection and sat and played for hours and hours straight practicing those things, he had a monster work ethic that wasn't even close to being matched at the time
@xEric199311 жыл бұрын
you can tell Mango is actually starting to be focused again. Both at Zenith and Apex 2013 he looked really focused you can see it on his face during games... I think he has a real shot at Evo.

@samskott234411 ай бұрын
Not sure if you'll see this, but they both played so damn well in this set. Mango definitely had control of the neutral for maybe 80% of the set. But Mew2king's survivability was on point, and he made that 20% count. Really good example of why Mew2king was so feared by the ledge.

what is the point of changing to zelda and back while recovering? does it restore your jump?
@Carnax696911 жыл бұрын
I can't seem to do a short hop, every time I flick the D-stick up it does a full jump, same if I quickly press and let go of X or Y. Any tips?
@JosiahMoore11 жыл бұрын
Definitely use X/Y to short-hop. Try practicing with Ganon, Falco, or Jigglypuff. It is tough, you almost have to glide your thumb over the button - hardly pushing it at all. But you will get the hang of it! =D
@Carnax696911 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the advice, I shall try. I normally play fighting games where I don't have to worry about how hard I press a button, but instead the timing of the button, like UMVC3, SSF4, MK etc. But lately my friends have gotten me into Smash bros again, and I want to put as much effort I've put into other fighting games into this series, which includes learning high level techs.
@Stereo4Radio11 жыл бұрын
Carnax6969 Short hopping is dependent on how long you hit the jump input. You can hit it as hard as you want (though it is generally easier if you don't slam your button). Just let go of the button quickly (I personally slide my thumb off the button as I short hop)
@glenncapes849611 жыл бұрын
As whoever stated it above, only a few characters can short hop noticeably, it's second nature once you get the hang of it.

I feel like the only way to do it for me is to jump with my joystick, keep it up, then once Im down on the field again since I hold my joystick up I can do it, but otherwise it will just make me jump or do a up+smash :/

So why no character lock? Counterpicks are REALLY huge these days, especially against M2K, yet Melee enforces no character lock after a win?
@Prodigial10 жыл бұрын
If you win, your opponent tells you what stage they are going to counterpick. You then get the option to change your character. Afterwards, your opponent gets to choose their character. Immediately after, the match begins.

That's called "edge hogging," friend. It's used in competitive play all the time; using the physics of the game to your advantage (one character on the ledge at any time) is just as legit as wave-dashing, spiking, or l-cancelling. No pro smash player would call it "cheap", "cowardly", or "fail" since all players have the ability to use it, and therefore it is an equal commodity. If you don't want to use it, that's fine--go ahead and play by honor, I commend you too. But the pros are out to win.
