Not sure if that model had the chromatic switch... But, between the service switch and chromatic switch, they'll drive you crazy. Love those old Zeniths.

Early '70s transition from tubes to solid state. The next version Zeniths had only 4 tubes, then all solid state after 1974. The high voltage/ high power transistors were more expensive than tubes at that time so there was about a 5 year period where both tubes and transistors/ICs were used as technology and economics evolved.

I had a Zenith set just like that about 15 years ago. Some guy was throwing it away and said I could take it. I was surprised at how well it worked. I used it for about three years and finally bought a new one because I was tired of my son complaining about having to change the channel manually.

Service switch is a common problems with this chassis. Was in the business sales and service from 1976-1999

I serviced Zenith's for years. The best color TV in production in those years. I'm glad I never had to bring my Zenith to you for repairs.

Lucky you...you didn't have to adjust the convergence...I used to hate to adjust these old sets. the newer ones have the 3 magnetic rings and they are a lot easier to adjust.

A Goldstar multimeter...Snap-On multimeters were made by them for a while. LG later spun off its testing and measuring equipment division as EZ Digital, which I believe went bankrupt not too long ago...

Great easy repair. Those dome transistors are usually suspect. Large power Transformer in that set.

I have three old TVs. They're from the late 80's to early 90's. One has a bad picture as far as color. Another shows a flat,squeezed looking picture. The third TV's power doesn't work. It may need a fuse. Anyway, I'm considering throwing them away instead of getting them fixed. My question is do any of these old TVs have any parts inside them that would sell on ebay?

Do you service all vintage televisions? I have my dad's Zenith Color TV from 1965 with a Round Picture Tube that does work to a point. It has picture but the Blue Gun is very weak. It could use a complete restoration. It is a zenith Model 5320-6. Can you help me me more info or Sams Photo info. thanks, Mike

12:12 I know this transistor they put these similar looking transistors in the kustom tuck & roll from about 1968 1969 I hate these gold plated ones as the failure rate is high on these.

mine has a 25cc55 and i have a vertical issue and I don't know what is the cause..The vertical issue is in the bottom of the screen...Do you know the problem Shango ?. thanks for the video.

I have a 1989 Zenith Space Command. The T.V. suddenly turned itself off one day and when I pushed the button to turn it back on, nothing happens. I do not have that briefcase looking thing that checks the voltage, is there a section of the inside of the television that I can fiddle with to get the picture back on?

Sounds like the voltage regulator IC or a HV cap went out. You can usually find both for pretty cheap through Mouser

@@ladr1550 That is way FALSE. The video and audio are seperate, but they're both on RF. Video is AM (Vestigial Sideband), and audio is FM, below the video carrier.

Seems like a lot of fumbling in the dark here, makes it difficult to tell if you just got lucky or know what you're doing. I honestly couldn't tell... Still nice to see it working. Might be worthwhile to go through and change all the caps and then check the outputs on the tubes.

The aquadag conductive paint? It being missing may cause weird noise in the video. You either have to get some conductive paint to replace it or put a high voltage capacitor between the high voltage anode nipple and ground.
