Here we have an old 40's Zenith farm radio to restore. It was called a farm radio because it operated off batteries to be used in areas where electric power was not common. We will convert the radio to operate from normal 120 volt electric power.

I love to run your videos with the closed captions on and the sound off. It allows me to hear the screams of anguish, gnashing of teeth, followed by expletives of unbelief from the purists when your finished project works! There IS more than one way to repair and enjoy an old radio in your lifetime!

Those old Zeniths sound great! The AM on modern receivers and expensive car stereos do not have the sound, nor do they have the clarity in the upper frequencies, nor the bass and presence these great old radios have. You can tell you have done lots of old radios! Your whole channel is so full of knowledge!

Bascom ohio. Circa 1957-58 several farms had little money on hand. so the family's. Had to share labour. Each Saturday night till late November. There was a big feed.put on the table. The radio fed on 36 volt./delco/wind Mill gen and served by a delco gen running off a John deer poper. (Tractor by belt drive.) Every time Minny perl. Would hollar" howdy". The tractor would have a conniption fit. Trying to keep up. 1970 the farms were sold. Still miss the fun with Minny and Grandpa. Tks

Impressive, the whole way 'round! While nowhere near Zenith's most extravagant, this is one beautiful example, of what Zenith was able to do with great circuit design, and you've done a stellar job of giving it life, once again. I worked for a Zenith dealer in the mid - '70s; the owner had been with Zenith since 1934, and had been gifted with a Stratosphere at some point, prior to 1940. While that Strat was impressive, his favorite, was a farm radio - of an earlier vintage, with its power having been supplied by a vintage power supply - built within two wooden vintage Cooper "CV Sharp" cheese boxes.

Ron, as you can see.... Your subscribers are always happy to see any new videos you publish. Do you still have your glass working equipment? It would be very cool to see one of these commercial radios with one of your home brew tubes as part of the circuit. It can be as simple as an RF preamp, or part of an AF chain. Please continue!

We had a similar Zenith at home when I was a kid. The chassis was pure copper. Of course, the darned thing was too old to be in working shape and I think that the chassis was worth more than the radio in those days. It was a console radio, sat on the floor, had the same tuning dial but a muich larger speaker.
