A bonus episode!! And a great review. I've been thinking about this lens for the last week or so, there's been some good reviews on it on YT, but none come close to this review. This lens is definitely on my Christmas list.

Its a personal preference but I like that TTArtisans are making lenses with clicked aperture rings. Really informative, thank you.

You know what this made me think of when you were playing with the focus? In the 1970's a Fuji Super 8 camera would not only have a duel axle cassette film cartridge, which easily allowed you to rewind and do multiple exposures, but instead of having to be in wide mode on the zoom to access macro, like every other manufacturer, you accessed macro ( the little slider) in telephoto. A very different and hip Super 8 camera. By the way, a pleasant visit.

Stumbled across this lens recently and decided to take the chance. Disconcertingly the focus ring distinctively 'squeals' when focusing. This is a first for me and I have used many sometimes antique manual focus lenses. It suggests untoward friction in the focusing mechanism. Possibly due to insufficient lubrication or misalignment of components during assembly. Just wondering if others have had a similar experience?
@zenography79232 жыл бұрын
I've personally not had any problems with any TTArtisan lenses, however if there's a fault I guess you could always get it swapped if bought recently?

Well, thanks to you and a couple of other reviews, I've just bought one. Only a brief try-out so far, but wow! Sharp, contrasty, seems excellent at both macro and 40mm. Thank you! And £99 brand new.

I have one and it seems to have issues with my A6700. The camera doesnt seem to know a lens is attached and the manual focus system does not work. I dont have another purely only manual lens so I dont know if my camera is acting as it should
@zenography7923 Жыл бұрын
Have you enabled 'shoot without lens'? Your camera won't fire with manual lenses until you've done this.

You should really try the TT Artisan 35mm F1.4 APS-C - it's lovely on X-Mount, Fujifilm Bodies ! I bought mine new super cheap from Aliexpress directly. And the matching, original TT Artisan Lens Hood (metal) for that Lens also.

Gosh, that sounds like a real bargain! Enjoy!

Good review. I've been hearing a lot about those TT Artisan lenses lately and would like to give some a try. Right now I'm trying to save up enough to buy a used full frame DSLR before fall starts as that's my favorite season for doing landscape photography, but after I recover from that, I'm seriously thinking of getting one of these lenses. I think they come in MFT format too and I need a good macro for my Olympus OM-D camera.
@zenography79233 жыл бұрын
This one would work nicely on your OMD, and give a nice long effective focal length of 80mm!

Why don’t you place your close-up camera on your right so you have light on the subject?

Thanks for the review. I prefer using f11 for zone focusing. It's disappointing that the lens functions as a 60mm lens because I'm really interested in the 40mm focal length. I actually just received a Konica Hexanon 40mm f1.8 that I'm looking forward to shooting with.
@zenography79233 жыл бұрын
Are you shooting on aps-c? If so, your Konica 40 will, because of the crop factor, also have an effective focal length of 60mm, unless you use a focal reducer.
@williambolton56793 жыл бұрын
I have a full-frame A7 and a crop sensor A6000, so I can use it as either a 40mm or 60mm. I'll prefer to use it on the A7 because I like the 40mm perspective. I also have a full-frame A-mount a850 and a crop A-mount a65 so all my screw mount lenses can be used on any. Because Sony discontinued the A-mount, I bought an A-mount to E-mount adapter also, just in case, a cheap one that doesn't support AF, but we have no problem with manual focus, do we? ^^

Thanks for the review. I'm surprised by what you said about flare-resistance. In other review I had watched internal reflections were mentioned as a huge problem: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bmPCgqqVp993gNksi=m-HGyFVGd1Up_Hpl&t=405. I must say, it is also consistent with my personal experience with some other TTartisan lenses (25mm/f2 particularly) - they all suffered from a substantial flare and an associated drop of contrast. They stil offer a very good value for money but it is something worth considering (or at least being aware of when making decision to purchase one).

I've been taking pictures since 1964 back then everything was manual focus and you learn zone focusing pretty quickly. I was out street shooting with my TT Artisans 24 mm lens and I set on about 16 feet at f8 and my shoots came out just fine Using focus peaking was a breeze its too bad that you think manual focus is a waste of time
