Great idea for some of those pastel colored pencils: I don't prefer coloring books, I like to sketch and doodle. This gives me ideas for experimenting using tiles and Zentangle-like work. THANKS!

I hadn't thought of drawing tangles with coloured pencils. Your tile was beautiful. Would it work to draw the string with a pale coloured pencil, rather than graphite? I'm learning a lot from your videos. Thank you.
@TracyAnneWilkinson2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Andrea! You could draw a string with coloured pencils but these are a bit more permanent than graphite. Graphite can easily be blended in with a tortillion or even rubbed out (though in general, Zentangle doesn’t use erasers) I suppose it would depend on how you use the string and if it blends in with the pattern. If it is left exposed then graphite would work better. When using coloured pencils (or paints) over graphite the graphite will set and show through the colour once you add it. In this case I would erase the graphite. I made this video a while ago but if I remember correctly, I used only coloured pencils and no graphite or pen on the coloured tile. It really depends on your project. In this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r3PMlGepoausY6c I used a combination of graphite, ink and coloured pencils. Another video in which I used coloured pencils, I only coloured the ribbon: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o4iXqXqBfNqAjNU

a p thank you for your comments. I did have another request for more on shading with colour pencils. I will try to come up with another video to address what you have asked for. Did you want to know more about shading with one colour using coloured pencils or more on shading with single colour fine line pens? Trouble is it has all those toxic fumes! I rarely use a solvent. I found some blender pens that are easier. I mostly just use pencils and do enough layers to burnish the paper.

Lovely work and thanks for sharing. I personally do not think I would or could use a solvent - time to use watercolour? Best wishes.
@TracyAnneWilkinson3 жыл бұрын
It’s just an option. Since making that video I bought some ‘Zest Pencil blend’ it has less fumes but I must admit, I rarely use it. I often use Derwent Blender pens to even out the colours and take some of the waxy surface off. My tendency is to just add enough layers to get a smooth blend and enough pigment on the page. Some people use baby oil to blend but I’ve never actually tried it. Thanks for watching!

Hi. Really enjoyed yr video clip. Just found you. Can u recommend a good mid range colour pencil brand for me. A semi beginner i am more of a painter. Thankyou so much. Cheerz. Denise W.A.
@TracyAnneWilkinson3 жыл бұрын
Hi Denise, I only have own prismacolours and Polychromos so I don’t have much experience with other brands. The Prismas are a bit cheaper than the Polychromos and both can be bought in open stock so that you can try them out before spending lots of money. Both of these brands are artist quality pencils so they are in that upper range of pencils. This topic often comes up in posts in adult colouring Facebook groups. I’m sure there are lots of videos here on KZbin with pencil brand comparisons that may help.

I use prismacolor pencils. I find white pencils ( charcoal or chalk) don’t show up if you use them over colors. Suggestions?
@TracyAnneWilkinson3 жыл бұрын
If you want areas to be white you need to leave them uncoloured to retain the white. You can colour that area white. It’s a good idea to colour these areas first as you can never get it back to white once you apply colour.
