Sick sound design tips, Zen. Here's the theory of the changes. They start on the 5th degree, Eb7, and then go to the 1 chord of Ab minor (the key of the song), just before going to the relative major key of B major7, and finally returning to the 5th Eb7. So you can use any minor key and go 5, 1, 3, 5.

Heyyy so i think the I chord in this song is what is called the borrowed from the relative major, so in reality this song would be in Ebm using a borrowed I chord. The only other chord in the song is the Abm/G#m, telling us the actual key Also i think her vocal melodies and harms can guide us in Ebm instead of Eb

Beatport said it was E Flat Major which is the correct way of saying D# Major. However I found it sounded more D# Minor with a “borrowed “ chord from the major version of the scale.

Aka hit D# F# A# you have D#min chord but now play D# G A # well now you have a major. This change sounds spacey and it’s what leads to the vibe in the song

what plugin are you using in Ableton to highlight the notes in the key? I see the blue highlights that youre toggling with but dont know what that setting is

nvm, if you go to the "clip" on the left hand menu of your piano roll in Ableton and then click "scale" you can select the key and the major/minor and it'll highlight the notes -- honestly something so simple that is such a game changer. For people who are getting into music and understand the major and minor scales, it's still such a pain in the ass to count "WWHWW" etc. for major and minor. SOLVED. LFG baby
