no the cars aren't auomatic, but the scenes when they shift have been sorta taken out, notice with the feet shots they have a clutch.

Not just this arc, in the 3rd both the FD3S and R32 never really crash as well as the 6th when Sendou only spun his A70 at Osaka, then getting injured was a silly idea

well at the time of this movie anyway, in about 5 years there was the toyota Supra, FD mazda rx7, Mitsubishi GTO,Evolution, there were heaps of cars the market was practically saturated with them.

well at that time nissan was pretty much the muscle car of japan. they made cars specifcally to be GT. honda/acura, toyota, mazda, mitsibushi could not even compete with them.
