These are very close in design and size to my 30 year old Klipsch Forte II speakers, which I still use daily. Over the years when speakers got smaller and smaller I kept the Klipsch because nothing can compare to the un-distorted depth of bass and the crystal clear sound of the horn tweeter and mid-range. I never have heard anything that made me want to buy new speakers in all those years. At one time my wife did suggest we get rid of these huge speakers and get some little cube speakers. Not sure where she's living now, but my Klipsch's are in my living room.

I bought my first pair of klipsch in the late 70s Cornwalls, since then have had 3 pair la scallas 2 pair of hersey and 1 pair of chorus, I am 61 and klipsch has been a life time experience. Presently running a bryston 4b and pre amp 2 chorus and 2 la scallas ...thanks Paul Klipsch...😎

What a beautiful combo, those klipsch deserve nothing but the best power amp, i bet that bryston powers them beautifully with little to no strain! For sure please put a vid in hd 1080p up, I'd love to witness such perfection!!

I've had these speakers for 2.5months and I never seriously considered raising them until I watched this video today. I went and grabbed some cinderblocks and threw then up on top and my mind has been blown. I often sat on the floor when listening to them to line the tweeter up with my head height better but raising the speaker opens the sound up and improves imaging and detail so much I can hardly believe my ears. Cant believe something so cheap and easy for me to do could make such a huge difference!

Your all over the place and I love it! Your passion and enthusiasm is contagious. This is the first review of yours that I have seen and at first I thought, here we go... but then I found the longer I watched, the more entertained I became. I saw these locally and listened to them using a Primaluna ProLogue Classic with K120 tubes and a higher end CD player and Bluesound Node 2 with FLAC files for digital content. Amazing! Following a listen of the same setup and a pair of Klipschhorns, I noticed they were not even in the same ballpark for openness, but the Klipschhorns require more than double the price each, a fairly unique room to set up properly and a legally blind wife/partner to put up with the size. I am fairly convinced that I am going to pick up the setup I mentioned above, but not until I build the right room. Keep doing what you do;)

Still fondly think of my long-gone vintage Klipsch Cornwalls -- monsters caged in stained plywood! Think the 70s looks dated? My pair was among the first built, and 50 years on their cane grills had the luster of years of Teamster stag parties spent blasting Sinatra into a Marlboro-laced and Commie-roasting haze. Fronts off, they looked like something lethal wired up in Los Alamos. They sounded rich, throaty and God-like -- not subtle, not realistic, not without that horn-loaded thickness, but. . .convincing. A single watt of tube juice was all it took to feel them mold the air in the room into a battering ram. You could lead an army with these strapped to a car. Classics.

As I said before in some comments somewhere, there isn't a day that goes by that I don't regret getting rid of my early 90's KG-4 speakers. These are way beyond the KG-4, and I'm happy to hear that they sound so good. Drooled over Heresy boxes for years. I still have my 15" SW-15 II which is 200w with a 15" passive rad on the back. One day, I hope to get another large sub in the house to compare to the Klipsch.

I upgraded the KG4's I had with a better crossover and titanium tweeter. Vast improvement, but lacks the Heresy III or Forte III midrange. The pure poly woofers are too soft. Newer woofers are much more rigid.

These were 80's speakers. Forte 1 early 80's Forte 2 Late 80's I have Forte 2's I bought new in 1989. They were on a rare sale for $999. a pair regular 1400 a pair or so. They are almost the exact same as the Forte 3's in size and design and specs. I also have the Fixx on Vinyl from the 80's so there.... These are nice speakers, they can work with very little power and get very loud. Bass is tight and full range, mid range is amazing, and treble is good They are bulletproof and there is plenty of parts available for them if the need arises,

I just got some vintage Klipsch Forte II's and found myself saying some of the exact things you say about these Forte III's. Specifically, listening to songs I've heard literally thousands of times, and realizing I've never heard the songs like THIS before. The fading of the bell for six seconds is a great example. These speakers are amazing. No subwoofer required. And with the right spacing, you absolutely, one hundred percent hear the magic, invisible, powerful speaker directly in front of you. Great review!

As one of those "old people" (55) I loved but never could afford Klipsch back in the day. But I heard a pair of Klipschorns, and OMG the level of sound and the clarity, from less than 20 watts RMS. 105DB from 1 watt. Wonder how Zeos would like to haul those up the stairs, and then send them back! But hey, it's only $12,000!

Had my Forte' ll's since 1990 and wouldn't trade them for anything. Loud and proud with all the upgrades. Back then they were $1,200.00/pair. All black so they look a little more contemporary and not so 70's. Have listened to many a speaker since and nothing comes close. My neighbor has B & W cm-10 and he can keep them. THESE things are a beast and never fade. Older Marantz gear and Carver amps really soften them up and let them shine. Welcome to the club.

You could expect to see these in one of KenrickSound's videos among his gorgeous remanufactured classic JBL monitors. They are a giant thumb in the eye of a lot of modern commoditized speaker development where things are cheaply made to be cheap and compact and 'modern'-looking, but sacrifice raw sound performance and cannot pass as furniture in a home because of cheap finishes. These can pass as excellent speakers and as furniture in a home, and the look speaks both to craftsmanship and to their function. The 'low' tower form factor can work if the speakers are tilted back slightly so that your ears are still "on-axis" relative to the drivers.

Great review! "They sound alive...". I have Forte I's upgraded with Crites titanium tweeter diaphragms, and they have---to a degree---a characteristic that escapes common speaker terminology, but is what people are really looking for. I call it "Dynamic Realism" for lack of a better term, and I consider it a loudspeaker's "Turing Test". RE the power handling, here's what Julian Hirsch of Stereo Review wrote about Forte I in 1986. "Our pulsed power-handling measurements produced a rattle from the woofer cone at 100 Hz with an input of 415 watts into the speaker's 6-ohm impedance. At 1000 Hz, the amplifier's protection circuit tripped at about 715 watts into 19 ohms, before any waveform clipping could be seen. At 10,000 Hz the amplifier clipped while delivering some 1300 watts to the tweeter's 10.5 ohm impedance!" Also: "The Forte's low-frequency distortion was by far the lowest we have ever measured from a speaker." List price in 1986 was $1100/pr. which calculates to $2477 in 2017 dollars. BTW Fortes had passive radiators from the get-go.

The Forte's 1st appeared in 1985. I purchased my Forte II's in 1989 a splurge at $1500 for the pair. I just updated them about 5yrs ago. These speakers are heaven to listen to. If I were going to buy today I would look for a good pair of Forte IIs ($500-$600) and update the tweeter diaphragms and replace the X-overs with new ones (~$300-$400).

I have the Original Forte's. They only had a 12" passive rad and a the older style mid horns. Will never sell em. They couple to the 14' x 18' room beautifully. Dont worry about blowing them as they handle peaks of 400 watts. They do take awhile to set up as the passive rads can be finicky for bass. Hate to say but they couple with the room (and also recommended by klipsch) at between 6"-24" they say it can work with an inch clearance but not great. With your small room, I guess they can over power the bass being in the normal operating range.I also have the Klipsch Chorus II's in my basement. 15" woofer. Those peel paint with shear volume...

They aren't really all that short - maybe just 4-5 inches compared to "tweeter at ear height", but they most definitely look more badass when raised up. It all depends on how they project the sound, and what is optimum distance to the floor for the bass.

The term is "book matched" not bookshelf matched. The idea is that you take wood, split it, and open it like a book to get the same grain shape mirrored on each board. They are 72 lbs each. Happy to help. I use two pair of Forte II, one on top of the other, top set flipped upside down so the tweeters are close. Bought mint used for $600 per pair from guys who's wives hated them, almost exactly the same speaker. Same passive radiators. Six feet tall of speaker. :) Get smaller amp, minimal cable and complication, optical to your DAC, eliminate the hiss. I use an Audiolab 8000A, never turn it up more than 10-12%.

I'd stand in the sweet spot listening to anything; band, orchestra, bostson's first album, it didn't matter it just blew me away. You can't care about what a speaker looks like when you listen to vintage klipsch speaker designs. They were made to be heard not seen.

I'am old school and I like how they look; so after some years of Hi Fi inactivity, what do you think of a refurbished Marantz 2270 receiver 70 watts per channel @ 8 OHM's, with a pioneer PL530 direct drive turntable and adding those Klipsch Forte lll to round out the system? I like clean bass at a moderate level and the speakers are all thats needed.

It would be cool if you got your hands on some Zu Audio speakers for comparison in the affordable(ish), high efficiency, made in America speakers.

A three watt tube amp might drive them to loud enough volume levels if you do not listen very loud or live in a apartment. It will not drive the Fort ll's loud enough for rock music, at least for my preferences. Make sure you try a low watt tube amp with them before you buy. I use a 4 6L6 2/12ax7 with a separate 7308 tube preamp. I would not want less power.

I've been a Klipsch fan since 1986. Nothing equals the clarity. Just as the review says, you hear sounds you didn't know were there. Piano keys just keep ringing, seemingly forever. And those horns push the sound at you like a missile. You can really feel the music as it punches you in the gut. I now use a couple of Klipsch bookshelf speakers and they sound really nice, but they cannot compare to the sound and power of the large Klipsch speakers.

been an audiophile for 40 years since I was 15. You finally heard but have not grasuated yet to horns which is pretty much all I listen to now and I have had every speaker type you can think of including some of the best in the world i.e, Soundlabs . Once You hear 4 or 5 way horns with each driver driven by iit's own amp there is no turning back! Best way to listen to horns is to have them in corners especially with a 90 degree dispersion horns. This speaker can not be put there unfortunately because of the passive radiator in the back. Maybe they should put that on the front which would force them to increase the size of the box and/or raise the box height and they could be placed properly! look at a Klipschorn triangular shape for the corner. Anyway you should listen and review more horn loudspeakers! Cheers from a fellow audiophile in New York!

I have been seeing many trends with high end speakers via KZbin and many seem to be trending towards horn development. I always felt most Klipsch are open sounding with a "as if you are there in the studio" type of experience. Curious if you would use these as a Surround Sound as per L&R? If so what would you match them with? Or do you feel these are more preferred as a "Analog stereo room vs as a HT type room.

Actually, these were introduced in 1985. I had a pair of Forte IIs, replaced the old drivers, and sold them to a guy who once lived in Hope, Arkansas and actually met Paul Klipsch. They are extremely efficient, but I didn't like the upper bass, so that was a deal breaker.

lol you gotta eliminate all the extra products in the signal chain. Especially the go rack....Its too cheap for higher end speakers. Minimalism is the key. The fewer products in the signal chain the better... Have you thought about buying a "reference" component stack that is constant for all your reviews? Just a thought. I love watching your reaction and explanation of all these product.

Hey man! Do you think that bell would be heard in similar way on the center channel Klipsch 64 III? Maybe 4 second reverberation instead of 6? Lol. Nice video. I don’t know if you’ve reviewed the 64 III’s, it would be nice if you did! Regards.

I don't know why some say the Forte's are not cinema speakers. I use mine with a class A amp for movies and they sound absolutely amazing. They're dynamic and have thunderous bass that make them fantastic for movies. Blade Runner 2049 sounds absolutely brilliant on the Fortes, you don't even need subwoofers although a great sub could still add to the experience.

Have you tried the Godzilla 1998 tornado blast roar? That's my torture test for highs. If you do have the Blu=Ray use chapter 6 when it roars at Nick.

Klipsch Heritage series are the only speakers in 2020 that actually look like speakers, a throwback to the golden era of hi-fi which I am 7stuck in and will be for the rest of time. Square with sharp corners is how a speaker should look like, with old school era looking drivers By the way, I'm not a 50 year old American. Only 19 year old Norwegian who prefer vintage sound and vintage look

Klipsch make great speakers. I've got a pair of Chorus 2's which are even bigger than Forte. I put titanium tweeters and midrange, also a pair of new crossovers. They blow you away.

I can't wait to see you review more Jamo, really want to see you test C97 or C109. I'm a sucker for Danish speakers, I love Dali, Jamo and really want to hear Dynaudio.... But unfortunately, our dealer doesn't have any speaker on stock (Iceland) lame.... But I bought c97 6 months ago and I'm really happy with them and how this tiny 6" manage to produce all that bass. But.... I also ended up with buying a new amp (Nad C388) and new Blu Ray player (Sony X800) but it was worth it. Love your review and I hope to see you review more floorstanding speakers.

Hi Z... Please - I know these are quite different to Kef R300! - Would you own both for how they peform on different genres? I have something very similar to a Kef R300. They lack punch for rock and metal sounds... meh. Would this (Maybe Heresy III) be the answer? You have heard both, so what do you think. How do these compare to Kef R300?

I had a set of Chorus i when they first came out. They can take a lot of juice. Traded them for a nice matched set of '78 birch LaScalas. Nothing sounds like PWK. Some like them, some don't. I've also got a set of matched '78 birch Heresy I's. Love me some PWK

I think a video on "investment" speakers would be cool. Just what speakers have appreciated in value the most over the years, or just speakers in general like the Jensen Imperial Reproducer , Pioneer HPM-150's (have ONE in my basement, non functioning), Sansui Sp5500's etc..Audio history segment perhaps
