I've had this amp for over a month and I said from the jump it was a mini A90 and if you don't need 6 or 7 watts of power (which most headphones don't) save $300 and get the A50s. After getting the A50s I got the iFi Neo iDSD and now I'm set with my amp and dac for the next few years at least.

Some really quality stuff ;) Even better, if you can split speakers in pairs across two sides, so that you can plug them In once in a while. I watched your Genelec videos and couldn't help but notice how you said that the room calibration made ALL the difference. I'm not sure if you're aware of this software called "Reference 4" by Sonarworks which basically does the same thing but in your computer with software and their calibrated calibration mic. So basically you could do "GLM" in any set of speakers. I think it would be interesting addition to your arsenal!

You should check out the RME ADI-2 FS R Black Edition, for a few reasons. 1) I wanna hear you rant about the name. 2) It does both DA and AD. 3) Hoy shit the number of options it has: eq, balanced out, multiple dual headphone out, and that's just barely scratching the surface. I need a Motu M2 with more power on the headphone amp and a slightly better dac. Best of the best, for me. Your reviews are awesome, but for a gamer, I want HiFi with simple use to switch between speakers, headphones, and microphone easily. Motu is good, but just doesn't power my headphones well. The Big Knob did power my headphones but didn't have a xlr mic and didn't have terrific dac, not to mention it had a strange electronic noise with the knob.

@@Kaofie unfortunately i dont have the original, but id GLADLY own two of these theyre so good. Anyhow, Im told the originals sound amazing at low volumes but you cant really turn them up or their treble peak becomes too sharp (Z himself mentioned this in the Mangird Tea review). I can confirm that the Frequency Response changes to the Pro are true. You can definitely play these loud and they sound incredible. Absolutely incredible. Especially with the bass screw settings. Theyre so good. Nothing is bad: bass, detail, separation, tonality. Maaaybe a narrow sound stage and not having the option to terminate the 2.5 balanced to a 4.4 or 3.5 (DD Hifi makes really nice adapters for under $17). So my advice is that if you liked the original, you'll love these. But i can only go by Frequency Response comparisons and other reviews. If the originals are like these, then id gladly recommend owning 2 pairs. And if the Pros are significantly improved, then they're worth it. Either way, i think its a risk worth taking if you own the original. Compared to like a 4XX or 6XX, these are a step above. And they wipe the floor with my TinT2. No comparison. These sound like Martin Logan e-stat speakers Ive heard. I wish they made a fullsized headphone with this tuning.

I did that, bought the a50s to replace a50. Then again its about whether the output impedance of the a50 is affecting the sound of your phones. I listen to iems which can be sensitive so a50s sorted the impedance issue.

Will you possibly check out the ifi Zen CAN? You did the signature version from DROP, but they now have the regular version on Amazon for $150-170. I'd like to see what you think about it especially with things like this existing. Purely based on specs I think it loses to things like the A50S, but it is a Class A with nearly 2 watts of power balanced. Would be interesting if it's Class A circuitry proves to be better then just raw power.

I bought the Zen DAC on his recommendation. I've seen pretty much all of his reviews and know that he is a big fan of the ifi stuff which is why I wanted to see him do the standard Zen CAN and see if he thinks it's as good as the Signature edition from DROP.

Actually the D50s measures cleanest at -1.5 or -2 db, so really you can just leave it wide open.

No one will read this anyway but here ya go. 1- It's cheaper 2- you most likely don't need that much power. 3- heard zero difference between balanced and single ended out and even if I did or could its way to close to the volume. 4- one single button that you will definitely switch the gain by accident. 5- volume knob was designed for a smurf. 6- no switch to desktop monitors 7- didn't sound very different to me. both clean solid state amps. when things start so sound similar to me at the price point then features and build matter to me.

Does the fact that it doesn't have a balanced input diminish in any way the balanced amplification? or I shouldn't care that it's converting SE to balanced?

The amp just measures the difference in voltage then amplifies it. It makes no difference. Balanced input has more to do with dealing with interference and ground loops. (If there is a ground loop then both phases of the balanced signal would be affected and the effect is canceled when you subtract the signals.)
