Also concerning your frustration with the way the stock ear pads are changed, the "channel" you point out at 7:39 is actually the plastic ring that holds the foam pad over the driver. You can easily pry that out and put the pad on it while it is off the speaker cup, which makes it a LOT easier. Once its on, just push the plastic ring back on (sometimes reading the manual does halp :D).

According to the description on Massdrop "The four-pin mini-XLR connection allows compatibility with balanced cables." So there's that question answered. Also, they're 32 Ohm so they should be relatively easy to drive.

Got three sets of Brainwavz to try with these, and I totally agree with the perforated being the best. Velour kept the stock sound. Micro-suedes, while ridiculously comfortable, amped up the treble and dulled the bass. Totally ruined the sound. The perforated felt like they kept the detail and clarity of the stock pads while giving a decent bump to the bass like the sheepskin. Best of both worlds

The sheepskin ear pads doesn't make the soundstage bigger. Quite the contrary, it makes the sound more intimate and warmer. It makes me feel like I'm listening to a close-back version of Sennheiser HD650 when I put it on. It's quite amazing that two different ear pads make a headphone sound like two different headphones.

I wanna record singing tracks and voice acting tracks and some drums sometimes.. but mostly working with singing to back tracks... which ohms should I then choose? would metal music, where you scream a lot in the music need a lower ohms like 30 vs the higher one or will the higher one still over all generate better sound quality? and what amp or dad to use with these if connecting to a phone or something weaker? will it need an amp if connected to the MacBook Pro M1? thanks for getting back

So my DT 177X GO right side just died on me for no reason after 2 and half years of desk usage. Never dropped it, never squeezed the cable. I have a custom flexible cable from Audio Hart. Tried different adaptor, 3.5 and 4mm tried on my phone, computer, laptor just in case it was the device of my cable. Nope... it's really the right speaker that have died. ... I loved the sound profile and the 32 Ohm easy to drive. Noow my DAC/AMP is a TRI TK2 wich can drive more power hungry device. Do you have any suggestion as an alternative headset (preferably close back) that could be similar or a small upgrade to the DT 177X GO ?

But Z. Are they comparable with 1990? Is it worth to choose them over 1990, if I love my soundstage to be big and massive, but want that precise bass of 770? I currently have the t90. But. Hear me out, deconi choce leather pads "fix" them. At least I think so. I really hope you'll answer, because now I have a nice opportunity of getting 177x. There's no point in him reviewing it, it's essentially a reference-design DAC. Even though it measures better than others in the price range, it likely wouldn't be audible versus other good-measuring DACs. Z didn't think there was a difference in DACs (unless they were basically defective) until he got some very up-market ones $1000. The review would go something like this: "Sounds like other ~$100 DACs, but you have to get a case. Why bother."

Okay I could do with a little advice I currently have a pair of Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro and a pair of Sennheiser HD6XX. I did have the AKG K7XX but I sold them as they didn't really do a lot for me. Currently just have them running through a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 interface and into my PC but I plan on replacing that with the Schiit Modi/Magni 3. I like the Custom One Pro sound but they seem awfully lacking in detail since picking up the HD6XX. Also love the build quality and general feel of the Beyerdynamics. I have a lot of awkward piercings, stretched ears and a mohawk so I have trouble finding headphones that are comfortable, but these fit like a dream. I'm still looking to hang onto the HD6XX but I think I want something to replace the "punchy" sound of the Custom One Pro, just with a little more detail, and for when I want something skull-rattling. I don't find the HD6XX to be satisfying in that area, as amazing as they sound everywhere else. I was dead set on the Fostex TR-X00 Mahogany until seeing the release of the DT 177X. I'm still a little swayed towards the TR-X00, especially with the current EU shipping drop. Factoring in tax and shipping, both headphones come in at around roughly the same price, with the TR-X00 being around £35-40 more expensive. Any chance of a little advice as to which way to go? Thanks in advance!
@RhubarbSenpai
@RhubarbSenpai 5 жыл бұрын
From the research I've done, it seems like the build quality is hands down better on the 177X, and I still see complaints about the Fostex being overly bright, comparatively (if you're treble sensitive). Did you wind up pulling the trigger on either? Would love to hear your impressions, I'm in the same boat myself (currently rocking 6XX, looking for a good closed back for mixing / bass)

Hey Zeos, I strongly disagree with your pad recommendation. IME, with the perforated XL pads the sound lost a great deal of focus and impact (I'm returning them). Everything felt far away. I'm trying to decide between the stock and the leather pads. I feel the stock velour might offer the better sonic characteristics, but the leather the best comfort. I do think one should not try to increase the size of the pads though as it will most certainly degrade the sonic presentation.

Agreed. I've only had the 1770x a day. After a day with the stock pads they I changed to the perforated XL's and they lost all of what little impact they had (which isn't that much imo). Disappointed with the headphones so far but a few people seem to say they take a good while to break in which gives me some hope.

Coztomba yeah, the bass got stronger on mine after a while, just make sure they’re sealing around your ears completely, that’s one of the big issues with these. the velour pads break in a little too which helps. In any case, the sheepskin pads should provide more bass period

If it never comes back on Massdrop which it has not for a while I would likely say that it is indeed been discontinued. I would love to see Z build a Bottle Head Crack with the Speed Ball upgrade it is suppose to be an awesome OTL tube amp..

The foam pads you pointed out to differ from the stock 1770 look to be the same as the ones the Amiron Wireless comes with. I put them into my 1990s and they do indeed reduce the treble quite a bit. While I was at it I also put the Amiron Earpads on the 1990 and BOOOM, they add SO much bass, it's actually not enjoyable for me anymore xD

still better. Imo , I own the custom studio - make ur own decision if thats high quality sound, its better because the highs colour the voices too much. I like colouring but when ms voice gets altered to much in a way my voice from my microphone sounds completly different then the treble is just too high. I got the Jubilee 1 week ago and its neutral. I am sure the beyer will have like 95 treble compared to jublilee with 90 out of 100 (pain starts at 100)

As someone who has owned both the DT1770's and the TH-X00 Purple Hearts, I'd strongly suggest going DT1770, or even 1990 if you're not going to be wearing them near others. The sub bass alone is so satisfying on the 1770's. and they're quite a bit clearer. After EQ'ing the bright spots, they're a far more pleasing headphone imo, and I regret selling them.
