sax is easy to learn, hard to master. if you want to just pick up the basics it's not hard at all. there are youtube tutorials and the like for free. and places will rent them, so you can try for a month to see if you like it.

There is really no answer to that, but to kind of answer your question I guess most people enjoy playing tenor more than alto.

If you listen to the sound of Tenor, it tends to have a much more warmer sound than that of an average alto, alto's have a much sharper sound per se. So in my opinion it's softer on my ears to listen to a tenor player, just listen to Kenny G., Grover Washington, Dave Koz, David Sanborn ect. you'll notice that the alto's do have a sharper tone than the tennors.

I honestly think, its because of the perceived range of the tennor. It's a lower key, and can get the low notes out with warmth, while still maintaining the ability to reach those highs. It's got the right balance to be a solo instrument.

That's a pretty small alto what's the name of it?

In the first one? I think it's a soprano, but I'm not sure (a soprano sax is usually without a bell, but not here)

It's a soprano saxophone. Normally they are straight, but that one is curved. Basically most soprano's look like gold clarinets pretty much I guess is a way you would put it.

Susan, don't sweat playing an alto, I've been playing one for many years, they have a great tone. Later on, pick up the tenor, the fingerings are the same, just a little bigger mouthpiece. Keep on playing.

I grew up listening to Kenny G he was my idol growing up I began playing saxophone thanks to him I used to listen to Khigh station too alot, but just a few short years ago something mysterious happened for no unforseen reason. Khigh mysteriously disappeared out of nowhere as did Kenny so at one point I lost my faith and stopped playing . for a long time I wandered looking for other jazz artists to listen to. Many years later. I vary recently began making new discoverys on the jazz front, I found a new jazz artist here on KZbin who is my new idol her name is Jeannette Harris I began communicating with her here on KZbin and in recent weeks I have found New jazz channels remenicent of the late khigh and Kenny's old videos from times past have started popping up on my KZbin page !!! So now I am finally feeling like my vary interest in jazz is finally after all these years finally taking off again !!! I'm planning on getting another saxophone soon so I can start playing again !!! This is the vary first time in years the jazz thing is finally beginning to look up again !!! I just wish I knew what happened to Khigh and Kenny those years ago and why they mysteriously whent away and disappeared into nothing like that for absolutely No unforseen reason !!!
