@@StusReviewsUK Not every time, but I watch on a computer with speakers rather than a tablet or phone so it's much louder. Once it triggers though you find yourself looking over ever time you hear it, waiting to see the blue ring 😂

Intriguing review. Were you able to check the accuracy of the GPS, heart rate, sleep data and SpO2 readings against other devices/apps?

All pretty accurate and comparable with the usual discrepancies! The problem is that no device and app will be 100% accurate... they are all only meant to be 'guidelines' (all devices say this somewhere in the Ts&Cs), so the only way of truly getting a level of accuracy measurement is to compare it to medical devices, which for obvious are far out of my grasp at the moment! I'll be looking into it though for the new year 👍

Oh. Music controls. That reminds me... One Russian madlad, Maxim Volkov, has made a custom firmware for Amazfit Bip that sacrifices AliPay, but in its place allows custom apps like music control and onboard editing for alarms. So I flashed it. Like, an hour ago. Feels like my next smartwatch upgrade has just been postponed by a few more years.

Yeah I saw someone had managed to flash one of the early bips... too much hassle in my eyes though, and never been too keen on installing software through flashing... You never know if it’ll brick your device!

Well, since I wasn't using the official app anyway, because I don't want my data in the cloud, for me this was the exact same procedure as installing an official update. That said, yes, generally this is an issue. Manufacturers could provide us with a backup partition for the old firmware, that can be switched to in case the new one fails... But they don't :( This has only started happening in Android in the last few years. I wish more companies adopted this trick.

@@TijlDaelemans Bips already have amazing battery life to begin with, the custom firmware rather improved the feature set in this case. If GTR has more powerful hardware (SoC, screen), custom firmwares probably can't do anything about it.

A great review of a lovely looking watch - and loved the 007 homage clips 👍 Normally I am very much a function over form guy, having recently ditched my polar and Apple Watches for the simplicity of a Mi Band5. Having since found your channel, I learned of Huami who make the Mi and its own (better) Amazfit models, and now the Zepp brand. I must admit that I was blown away by your Zepp Z model review, and am now very tempted to get one. Just a few questions: a) Does the Zepp Z allow for continuous SpO2 monitoring? - which would be a big plus for my condition. b) Would be great to hear whether you have found the battery life to be as good as Zepp claims. c) Have Zepp upgraded functionality on your pre-production model since uou have had it via firmware? d) Has the Zepp app been upgraded regularly to sort out the bugs you mentioned ? As the MiFit app has not addressed a couple of major bugs I reported at Xmas. Sorry for the long post, but need to be pretty sure before shelling out ~£300+, unlike ~£35 for the next Amazfit Band 6 (in the summer?)🤣

The inert button you are talking about is for ECG/EKG which will be coming later through OTA update.

Yes I believe you are correct (sort of) - I only found out there was to be an ECG model during the event, although as far as I am aware, it’s not going to be available through an OTA update. Sources have said it’s actually a separate version (possibly with slightly different internals). Makes sense though for them to use the same body production though to save on development and manufacturing costs, which would indeed explain the capacitive touch button. 👍

Do you know whether there will be a new international version or the one released earlier will be updated via OTA?

No speaker on this one, so no absolute use audio through it unfortunately. And no whiff NFC at this moment still. Fingers crossed for the future though 🤞

I currently use a three physical button Wear OS watch but would like to transition to the Zepp Z. I use Google podcasts and control the 10 sec rewind and 30 second forward controls on the watch media player with the top and lower physical buttons. I also need notifications for WhatsApp calls (Wear OS only notifies of messages so I use the Informer app as a workaround). Can you do both things with the Zepp Z?

Good review - no Golf App for it ? Considering they have a bunch of Golf/baseball sensors is that not an ommission? It looks big though or you have small wrists .. Seems to be just a watch with some health stuff ...compared to the Galaxy watch is it as flexible?

That button is there is for ECG. ECG availability is vary from county to country. But the sensor is there

Yeah I found out after I’d reviewed it about ECG... interestingly though they are suggesting that it’ll actually be a specific ecg model, and not a software update in the existing ones. 🤔

This is the only watch I'd consider am upgrade over the design of the original Huawei Watch with a Milanese band. I do see that this one still has a small black ring around the screen and mine doesn't have that. Is this missing sapphire crystal enough? Mine is 6 years old and I hit it so many times, but it's literally flawless. It has literally no scratches, even tiny ones and I wore it every day.

Very good review.I think the top button is more electrical than capacitive,perhaps to be used for something like ECG in the future,as in some other watches like the Active2. I think you should have pointed out that when Alexa is enabled ,answers will be text on screen,not voice...same as my AmazfitX.

I think you’re right Stu, looks smart and you’ve done a good job at selling it. But because this isn’t a mainstream brand I do worry slightly about the security flaws on these Chinese devices. Is there a way you could test this for us??

For the most part, if you use a third-party app for interaction between your watch and the smartphone, the watch no longer has any means of "phoning home", leaving the only possible exploits to Bluetooth-range. And China is well outside of that range.

Looks great, although a bit expensive for my pocket. It's kind of a feat they got a titanium watch to stick to a magnet at all tbh. A nitpick but as a northerner I feel a PIE score would have been more useful, just to make sure I was getting my recommended weekly intake of 12 pies , and also a spGr monitor to check blood-gravy levels. Maybe that's asking too much though.

Personally I don't wear leather, but otherwise it looks good from a distance -- however I'm yet to find a (good performing) smart watch with a screen discreet enough to actually want to wear -- for example, the display on this is marginally under 36mm, compared to my vintage Rolex which is just over 28mm. For me, the lack of subtlety is a bit of a deal breaker.

Hi Stu, great review. I like the suit. :)) One thing I found a bit of disappointment for this is that there is no storage for music to listen on the go. I check the website and it is only 256mb of storage which is definitely not for music. For this price, I think the Amazfit GTR 2 is a better option, since It can do all of the thing this watch can, functionally.

Wish Apple Watch had more realistic faces so it can look like a real watch. On these type watches you have to look twice to see if it’s a smart watch or not. Apples watch faces in my opinion just look cartoony especially if you change to anything other than a black face. There are third party apps that mimic famous watches etc so it can be done. Just think these look classier.

@@pandabear5746 Bought it on eBay. Open box. Amazfit wearables are also limited with features. I have Verge, GTR and Stratos. Only of them Stratos make sense. If you want more features, go fo Samsung watch active 2 or Watch 3, or buy WearOs watch.

Yes in normal cases I would have used zed. But zepp zed sounds unnatural... (plus, in the Announcement they pronounce it as ‘zee’, so I thought well maybe this one transcends localised dialect and should be pronounced ‘zee’). In any normal scenario however it’s zed 😉

I’ve not had any noticeable issues with GPS in my locale, other than one particular valley where any GPS gadget (including drones) struggle to connect. As far as I’ve experienced it collects my route data extremely accurately, just like the previous devices in the zepp ecosystem. Those that have said they haven’t recorded accurate routes, I have literally no idea what they’re doing, but they are definitely doing *something* wrong. 😂
