I've heard in my country SSG did a 36 Mile walk in 12 hours in full gear (about 10-20 kg) and then a 5 mile run in 50 minutes in full gear.

The hot packs work as an exothermic reaction. There’s most likely salt-like reactants in the packet, so as you add water they react, and when more energy is released than initially having been taken in, there is essentially a surplus of energy which is given off in the form of thermal energy/heat.

@Riley Williams as far as I know, it can work with any salt, which is just a neutral compound. So there is no specific chemicals that do it. There might be one specific one that all hotpacks use, but idk what it is

When the water reacts with the magnesium and salt it creates the exothermic reaction you mentioned. I would assume it's something similar for other MRE's, but I could be wrong.

British field rations are meant for one meal. You usually get three per day unless you are told otherwise. Other countries, like Denmark, have full day rations providing three meals and snacks 👍🏼

Omg yasss, so like its meant not for rationing because they are meant to eat like 4000 cal a day. So one pack would be filled with all this stuff and more. As they are losing lots of energy throughout the day. I mean they are going to war would be proper bad if they got hardly anything to eat while running everyday. The best thing gotta be the extra stuff you get with it all. Like when I got one once it had waterproof matches and water purifiers. They was like good ones. Josh, an Idea for you lad! Sidemen recreate call of duty missions in 24 hours? They'll have to recreate those missions but in a movie type way. Easiest one I can think of is the clean house. They all have NVG (night vision goggles, courtesy of Activision and they just need to find an empty 3-4 story house with rooms. Plus, once they make the whole thing, they can repost it to moresidemen, so double the fun, double the views.

The big thing is these are complete meals, so they get all the calories and nutrients they need. Really it’s pretty amazing what they have managed to do, a hot meal that will get you exactly enough to get you to the next meal. Plus so many drink choices is nice too. Also Chili con carne is notoriously delicious in these meals lmao (I’ve never had that brand but in the ones I’ve had), probably would’ve been the best one.

As a 5 year serving cadet sergant major of the army cadets heat packs are very rarly used even in the current army we use whats called a hexi burner which is what we cook over and hexi gels which we set on fire in the hexi burners, we then put a mess tin over the top with our ration in with water also all rations including main meals can be eaten without being cooked as they are all pre cooked meals containg the things you would need for a duration that you are in the feild. The ceral bars, sweets or any other snacky or powdered drink bits are designed for energy hence the high sugar or protein levels
