I have worn altras until last spring when I got some topo pursuits. That was a great move. The altras fit and feel great but I cant even get 100 miles out of them before getting holes on the sides near my toes. My topos have a couple hundred on them and have no holes yet. They have the zero drop I love and as much toe space as my roomiest altras, which would be the timp 1.5.

Glad you found a shoe you love! I have tons of miles on both my Lone Peak 5s and 6s with no issues. I'm not even hiking in the 7s yet because the 6s are still going strong. Maybe I got lucky, or maybe they had some batches with quality issues and sold them anyway. I liked a lot of things about the Topos but couldn't get past the "bite" on top of my foot where the tongue was fastened to the upper.

Those topo look awesome! Think I'll try em. Been wearing Altra but breakdown to fast.
@ozoutdoors8 ай бұрын
Yeah a few people have commented that. It hasn't been my experience with the Altras. I've got a few hundred miles on my Lone Peak 6s and they are still going strong.

I'm shocked you haven't had wear issues with your Altras. The road racers I have wear the soles out in half the time of any other shoe and the lone peaks lugs have worn pretty quickly as well. I haven't had the issue but there's also countless people with blow outs on the toe box sides.
@ozoutdoors3 ай бұрын
Yeah I don't know what to say. I've seen the reports of people with wear issues but my Lone Peak 6s are still going strong. I use them for hiking, trail running, and general workouts. Maybe different batches had different quality standards and I randomly got a pair from a good batch. But also the Topos weren't comfortable for me. They had that tongue bite whereas the Altras are just comfortable from the beginning.

@@ozoutdoors I bought my son the Topo pursuits based on not liking the durability of the Altras or the concept and politics of Hoka. All that said it makes it hard to get shoes that work for each different foot shape since stores don't really exist anymore that carry most of these brands. And laying down half a grand plus to try them on at home isn't doable for everyone. Good talk and God bless!

Switching to zero drop shoes (to my surprise) helped solve my plantar fasciitis problem.

Awesome! Glad you found a solution. They work great for me too.

timp 4 is my favourite long distance shoe. people say they fall apart too easily, which i haven't experienced yet. upcoming timp 5 has vibram outsole so i'll definitely try them
@ozoutdoors Жыл бұрын
Yeah I might try the timp 5s as well, although my Lone Peak 6s are still going strong and I have the 7s as well which I haven't really worn for any serious distance yet. More shoes than I know what to do with :)

Nice comparison video!! I have been wearing a pair of Altra Olympus 4s for hiking. It's pretty rock on trail in NE Pennsylvania and the Olympus stack height really helps. But, the biggest positive for me is the comfort level of that toe box and generally wider feel to the shoe. I like that. I do wish there were more shoes that had that same feel to choose from. That brings me to the only negative about the Olympus, the price! I have considered trying the Lone Peak. Is there anything out there that compares to the Olympus 4 feel?
@matthewgiles123 Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I haven't found anything with as much cushion as the Olympus. There's not much savings with the Lone Peaks either. Unless you get a prior year's model, the new ones are all within about $10 of each other, even from different manufacturers. Ridiculously expensive imho.
@lukepaulson3428 Жыл бұрын
For me the Lone Peaks are too “squishy” feeling. The Superior 6 is in fact “superior”, offering a lower stack height and more ground feel. Thanks!
@ozoutdoors Жыл бұрын
Interesting. Where do you normally hike? A lot of my hiking is in Missouri / Arkansas and I find the Lone Peak is about right for me for the terrain. The Olympus is too squishy for me.
@lukepaulson3428 Жыл бұрын
@@ozoutdoors Upstate New York mostly. I liked my Lone Peaks, but the switch to the Superior is a better fit for me.

I got a pair of superior 6’s and can not stand them. The toe area has no vertical space and crams my toes. They seem like they’d be fine otherwise.

Thank you. I need more footwear with toe boxes like Altra original fit in wide. Vivobarefoot in wide is too narrow. Have you found anything as roomy as Altra original fit wides?
@ozoutdoors Жыл бұрын
I haven't. Altra seem to have been getting narrower over time, even in their original fit, but original wide still seems to be the roomiest there is on the market.

Wish I knew what drop I need I think i want box toe
@ozoutdoors6 ай бұрын
Altra, Topo, and Hoka that I mention in the video all have models with different drops, and all do a 30 day return even if you've worn the shoes. So I would suggest buying a few pairs with different drops, going for a hike in all of them, and then returning the ones that don't work. You could even do them one-at-a-time rather than ordering several pairs at once.

Just too expensive. I'm long term fan of Asics. They work and they are not overly expensive
@ozoutdoors8 ай бұрын
I agree, they are expensive. I've also used Asics for many years for sports and workouts. For hiking I find a wide toe box indispensable and afaik Asics don't have any model with that.
