You take cranking as something to be looked down on and that’s not okay. This form of aggressive playing is what makes band fun for us. It’s all apart of being a versatile musician. Musicians who crank also understand the importance of playing with the control and balance. Famu gears their music towards more balance and control with a dash of volume while southern univ. aims to max out all those qualities: control, balance, and volume- and they do a consistently outstanding job with that. What you fail to understand is that cranking gives band students an outlet to release pent up energy and convert it to passion through the instruments. If you you’re dealing with some things in life, all that goes away when you cranking. We call it wartime for a reason, that aggression gives band that war like feel. I hope my take on cranking helps you understand my perspective of what I grew up around.

Many wouldn't believe this but SU band is mostly freshman with hardly 0 band experience There are only a small handful of seniors and for them to sound this good speaks volumes in how well the directors of bands are doing thier jobs in teaching these students because I'm sure it was not easy training them to sound and march like this. High stepping and whip turning itself is not an easy technique to learn over night lol. We only see them in uniform during game time and battle of the bands and go by what we use to hearing or like hearing but its a whole lot more but its all good even the hate. We're all here for it!! Big ups to every band that put forth efforts to make these games entertaining and interesting.

This is a bit underwhelming tbh. SU had the power as expected, but wasn't as clean as usual. I'm trying to adjust to this new SU play/ arrangement style and it's just not moving me. FAMU was the better sounding one also as expected. That believer was really good but everything after that was Dr.Leeish. I understand FAMU doesn't want dancers because of tradition, yet the flag boys are giving counts from a workout at home DVD, or someone's drunk auntie at a family reunion? Hopefully this matchup becomes more interesting as the programs see each other. Both of these bands are the standard of their respective styles and this should always be a showdown.
