I have had a massive week! Bit of a slow one sorry, hopefully you can still enjoy :)
Week 19 of my 7 month journey as I train from zero prior experience to complete an Ironman in order to raise awareness for T2KO and support those facing this tough battle.
This week's episode is around my new bike and first ever TT bike! Over the moon and another massive thank you to Nick from ‪@METSPerformanceConsulting‬! For those wondering, it is a 2020 Canyon Speedmax CF 8.0 :)

Congratulations on the new ride, sweet. Triathlon is a learning experience, so anything bought for 1 bike probably won't work for the 2nd bike being from road to tri bike, not a loss just a learning experience. Keep your old bike, if you ever travel and ship your bike your road bike will come in handy for training while your bike is in transit. If you do decide to sell it to someone else don't be surprised if get a little emotional thinking of where that starter bike has taken you.

Just a random suggestion...if you have the bike fitter readjust your fit to this new bike I'd lean more towards comfort than optimizing aerodynamics. Your target race is 112 miles and there's a way to feel pretty comfortable and still be aero. I'm sure your guy is good, but some of these fitters try and get a bit too aggressive on the aero side. Just a thought. Very happy that you found a solution to the bike problem. You were a bit down last week, but spirits way up this week. Best wishes from Texas

So jealous of your bike! Awesome choice though! One question I had coming up throughout a few videos was how did you find your coach? And do they just create a training schedule for you or do you also have specific training session for each of the 3 sports to help with form etc? And do they connect you with people to help you with bike fits / VO2 testing etc or did you mainly get the advice of the comment section and DMs from this crowd (which is honestly amazing - I learn so much in prep for my IM next year just from reading the comments under your vids!) Either way - awesome job keeping at it and still filming these videos! Hope you’re feeling the support! Keep it up and let’s go!!

Hey! I can answer most of this for you! I actually found my coach posting on linked and a friend of a friend tagged him! I did get a fair few messages at about week 7 from coaches as clearly at that stage I was pretty self structured (with help of friends). My coach now creates sessions for each sport correct! Through training peaks! I knew Mitch Anderson (first bike fit) as he was my own sports doc. for my prolonged injuries. I reached out for VO2 max testing on my own back! Coaches do give great advice though but most of the external professionals I’ve had on here were simply from prior relationships or google searches! I hope that helps, happy to answer any other questions too! I do use a lot of advice from my comments though as well - it’s great to trial and error what works from the comments for you is what I found! 😅

Holy hell, that's an insane bike, looks cool and sounds even cooler 😀. How's your nutrition and weight changed since starting the training? I've tried to eat way cleaner since starting my training (not always succeeding tho :D), lost over 10kg in 6 months, even though it's not my primary goal per se, but it just kind of melts off with the training. But I'm training only for a 70.3, so around 8hr per week, I'd imagine you'd have to seriously up your calories to not lose a ton with your 15hr+ workout weeks. If the question's too personal no worries, you don't have to answer, great video as always! See you next week.
@brodysearle

Hey bro!!! I honestly eat heaps haha I’ve only lost 2-3kg, I probably eat too much to be honest… I eat an enormous amount of nutrigrain, weetbix, honey, fruits and protein shakes throughout the week hahaha and an insane amount of chicken and meat 😅

Hey Brody, Last week I decided to do Ironman Canada in 6.5 months cause i wanted a new challenge. I quickly realized what i was in for after my first week of "training" (coming from a background of only having run a couple very slow and painful half marathons). I found your channel after looking up advice and its super inspiring to see someone who also decided to do the exact same thing haha. Any advice you could impart on my first couple weeks? Keep up the inspiring work and I look forward to seeing your Ironman race! -Thom

Hey bro! My best advice would be to get a coach or network in the first few weeks more than what I did (thinking I could plan it out myself), it was something I was lacking until week 7 and believe I’d be a lot further down the track if I got a coach or had a better understanding of the actual demand required in the disciplines sooner. Definitely spend a bit of time in the water and getting used to doing drills and practice breathing early days, the hardest thing to overcome was submerging my head underwater (as well as breathing) and staying calm.

You look a bit low on seat. From 172.5 to 165 you need to adjust seat up to match the mills. You may need to move seat back a bit as well. Purpose of shorter cranks is to help your hip angle and if you stay too low you won’t generate power as efficiently plus it’ll cause pain long term. The shorter cranks and open hip angle will help you transition from bike to run nicely. Good luck!

Bro what model saddle is on that Tt bike..? Front hydration - I had one of those profile design aero bottles with a straw… didn’t really like it. So I’ve just zip tied a bottle cage onto my aero bars and have a 1L bottle in it. It faces in reverse so bottle facing back at you. I saw Josh Lewis did it like that so tried it, and I like it.

@@brodysearle cheers. Have heard of those saddles. Meant to be pretty comfy. haha nah it comes out pretty easy bro.
