Wily never really finished Zero in his lifetime. Serges was one of the robots that Wily uploaded his mind into, and Serges finished/recreated Zero as Wily meant him to be.

+Ethan Barlow Look at Bass's ending to Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters. Look closely at what Wily shows that Bass calls "girly". Seem familiar? Yeah, it's Zero. But! Look closer. Remember how in X1 he didn't have square shoulder pads? In that design, he does. This means that Dr. Wily planned for Zero to have square pads, maybe even a Z-Saber! (I need to stop reiterating Dookieshed's video. Check it out for more details.)

+Dustin Rush I see your point, but! Zero gets his z zaber from sigma. (before or after x1 I can't really put pin on it, it showed zero battling sigma, and sigma has the z zaber in the flash back of x4, but even so sigma had a z zaber at the final fight from x1. either way Zero gets the z zaber from sigma. Therefore zero gets it between x1 and x2.

Ethan Barlow You're missing something. Zero self-destructs to destroy Vile's Ride Armor near the end of X1. Therefore, he's dead... But I'm not done! He's in 3 pieces in X2, and you have to beat the X-Hunters to get his parts back. His body part has the square shoulder pads, and he has a Z-Saber when he is rebuilt, either by X or by Sigma. If you collect all 3, you get to skip the Zero fight and go straight to the Sigma battle.

I've played X4 and completed it, both stories. Zero's crystal was shattered if I recall, and he fell unconcious. And note that Sigma's saber is more like a traditional lightsaber than Zero's katanasaber.

@ZigTheHunter Nope. Light had plans for the Megaman X model long before Wily even started building Zero. Wily actually had to get a copy of Light's X blueprints in order to make a robot to counter Light's new creation, which in turn became Zero.

if u play all MMX story, mostly from MMX4 i belive, it show that the Z saber was obtain when zero almost killed sigma, when sigma was a maverick hunter. the battle between sigma and zero causes sigma to get the virus Zero had. and zero lost his memory somehow. And that battle happen before MMX

yeah that first part is not a flash back to when he was originally awoken. That is him having a waking vision prior to his mission at the sky lagoon. the pods you see are in the maverick hunter base. Then directly afterwards you see another vision of him in where he is in his original pod that is surrounded by robo corpses.
