His flask wasn't underleveled. He had upgrades from Undead Parish and Blighttown, New Londo Ruins should be done after Anor Londo and killing Firekeepers is evil. There is Anastasia's soul too, but you could bring her back to life. +2 Estus for O&S looks like something Miyazaki intended for new players.

@@ZeroLenny It's that moment in the souls game you forget about everything else and say: "I'm not here to play anymore, I'm here to win", which is, I think, mostly popular on souls games. Its fun to see how we grew up, but everyone once, either gave up on a hard boss (or, hard at the time for him), or soldiered on and gave himself the best chance at winning, AKA, the "full havel's".

I played the series in reverse and I wasn’t very impressed with DS1 the first time I played it. Then, when I was stressed out of my mind with a tough college semester, I got the urge to revisit this game. During that second play through, I just got sucked into the world and atmosphere of the game. After obsessively playing through the game another 3 times, I can say that DS1 has easily become my favorite game of all time. Keep it up with all your awesome content!
@tacticalchunder1207

Totally agree with the teleport thing. The biggest mistake of DS2 and 3 were having teleportation to any bonfire from the get go. You HAVE to get immersed in DS1 and pay attention to where you’re going, because you can’t just teleport back. Bonfires in 2 and 3 were like save checkpoints, and it really took the immersion level down. DS1 also gave you limited teleportation when you did get it, not every bonfire. Why they didn’t do that with 2 and 3 is beyond me.
@idonotknow2652
@idonotknow2652 2 жыл бұрын
The main reason DS1 *can* do that is the fact that everything pre-anor londo is physically connected to Firelink, so even though you can't teleport, you can still get back to your hub area relatively often Doing such a thing in the sequels would mean completely redesinging the world to work around Majula/Firelink DS2 can't do that, as every place in Drangleic is so unique and different that it wouldn't make sense if it was all built around the same small hub area I personally don't mind the choice to remove the interconnected world design, it's an amazing feature, but it would feel less special and more repetitive if present in every entry of the trilogy

Best way to explain that bit with Demon souls is this: Demon Souls is to Dark Souls what Wolfenstein is to Doom. It came first, but the next game improved upon it and got the recognition it needed to cause dozens of games inspired by it to make it a genre.

On my first playthrough i went towards the tomb of giants and got stuck underleveled at a bonfire because i ran past some enemies. What I love about it is that i ended up understanding more of the game as i died every time trying to get back to the firelink shrine, it felt like i was really stuck and had to fight for my life. It helped me get good at reading enemies, dodging and parrying. Then later i understood how it was meant to be played as i followed the correct path against enemies i could i actually fight. 10/10 i keep it in my heart.

I do love ds1, but everything that made it genre defining is from demon's souls, demon's souls made a new genre, dark souls refined and popularised it.

I mean, the interconnected world and iconic bosses aren't in demon souls.
@_cripticon8004
@_cripticon8004 2 жыл бұрын
@@ThyBigCheddar but those two things don't make a genre, notice how i said ds1 refined demon's souls. It's iconic bosses, such as the asylum demon or the gargoyles are simply just ripped from demons souls with a fresh coat of paint, they're just the vanguard demon and the maneaters. Ds1 was popular, and thus those bosses became iconic. Demon's souls was doomed upon release due to sony being a-holes and people not understanding the whole souls concept in japan. And the interconnected world, while amazing, isn't a core of the souls genre. Ds2, Ds3, Bloodborne, Sekiro and Demon's souls are all linear compared to ds1, even games like nioh and jedi fallen order, so i wouldn't say thats genre defining.

The teleport thing was absolutely huge for Dark Souls 1 versus the sequels. But I don't know for sure if it can be said that not having it improved or made the sequels worse. One of the strongest points of FromSoft games were that, if you found yourself struggling against something, you could explore something else in the time being instead of bashing your head against the wall again and again. Not that you HAVE to, its an option. But the important thing was that both options were equally present and equally respected by the game. That's where having the teleport can be very important, and we even see that in Dark Souls 1. Where the path splits is exactly when you obtain the teleporting between bonfires. In the sequels, you could say it is a failing of the game to require so much teleporting. The Gulch comes to mind; no coming back from that without teleporting. In Dark Souls 3, so much teleporting is necessary because its so linear, and almost never loops back on itself. But here's the beauty of Dark Souls 1. It didn't need the teleporting, and it knew that as a fact. So it played into that fact, and they played into it beautifully. It was an opportunity to have so much interlinking worlds that you didn't need teleporting. That in itself is a part of the charm of Dark Souls 1, and the respect people have for the interlinking worlds. I would even go as far claim that Bloodborne could have also done away with teleporting, with exception of Castle Cainhurst. Yharnam was almost as intertwined as Lordran, and sometimes, when the world is so confusing but connected like that, you NEED to feel lost. Feeling lost and confused brings with it that brilliant realization when things all come together. That moment when you step out of Blighttown and enter the sunken ghosttown that you may have recognized from the start of the game. That moment when you can see Lost Izalith from Tomb of Giants. That moment when you can go to the locked gate of Sen's Fortress, to realize that the rest of the game hides behind its gate. Irreplaceable. But not every FromSoft could do this without serious repercussion for the user. And I acknowledge and respect that. But it just makes my respect for Dark Souls 1 that much greater.

I have had this exact discussion about fast travel with other people before. It's genius, is that it creates a quest system, without explicitly having a quest system. If you need to upgrade weapons, farm souls, buy items or whatever, you need to really think about the journey too and from the relevant places. You can't just teleport to a farming spot then teleport to a vendor. And you forgot to mention probably the bravest and coolest design decision I have seen in any game... Just as you are starting to get comfortable with game, the Firelink Shrine Bonfire gets extinguished. Your home base, your resting point on long journeys is taken away from you. Genius. It melted my brain the first time it happened to me. It really helps create the feeling that the world is not created for the players convenience (as with the hub world styles of DS2 and DS3) but is instead this living, breathing place that you just happen to be passing through.

Dark souls 3 was my first dark souls game, and the one I have the most hours into. The level of detail in the world, the music and the story you can piece together while playing sets the atmosphere to a level the previous 2 never could achieve. Im going to challenge myself. It was an indescribable experience going int DS1 blind as an adult gamer. It took me a long, long time to get to grips with how it played - The Bell Gargoyles smashed me more than 30 times. It was rough. But by the time I got to Anor Londo .. Something had just clicked. I finally "Got" Dark Souls; and I'd fallen deeply in love. My biggest gaming achievement; was killing Ornstein and Smough on my first ever go; with the only knowledge of their names, and how they were the "Git Gud" boys. I was finally ... Gud. I then proceeded to immediately get gangbanged by Skeletons in the Catacombs but, hey thats Dark Souls! Its an incredible game, and that experience of playing it blind was .. Special. He booted up dark souls and was playing it. He was on NG+ and was in some fucking place, idk I can't remember. After a while I asked if I could give it ago. He gave me the controller and I went at it, not knowing anything besides the 30 mins of gameplay before hand. He told me how to play and a few hints and that was it. Everyone was watching me play and how dogshit I was. Chose the knight and fat rolled my way through the game, I struggled for hours trying to play through undead burg. Running into the black night and trying to fight him in that narrow hallway, trying to cross the red drake bridge, fighting the second black knight. Then through the second half I made it back to firelink shrine and was stunned, like I made it back to the starting area. After that I went and instead of fighting the bell gargoyles, I went towards the darkroot basin. Running past the Titanite Demon and fighting my may through again fat rolling. Then I saw it, the moonlight butterfly. I so badly wanted to kill it, and my friend said that I couldn't but I could do it latter. I was a little disappointed, but I keep on going through, got to the stupid door that I couldn't open and my friend told me that is as far as I can go. But I saw a path off to the side, and my friend was shocked that he missed that. So continuing pass everything as I was little too under leveled. I eventually got to the big bridge and the moonlight butterfly's heath bar appeared on the bottom of the screen, the room was in a uproar. I was fighting a boss that the master of the game didn't know about. It was intense as everyone was trying to tell me how to fight it and kill it, and when I finally did oh man did it feel good. That is why for me, Dark Souls 1 will be forever be in my heart as the best Dark Souls game ever.

The OG Dark Souls is such a masterpiece. The level design, the interconnected world, the atmosphere, the story, there's just so much going for it. And as the title said, Dark Souls 1 was so good, so iconic, so innovative, that it created an entirely new genre of game. Nothing will tell you what the game is about more than that.

I hope Fromsoft one day makes another souls game without fast travel. The points were already said in the video, but man ds1 felt different compared to the other games. In the other games areas feel like runups to bosses for two reasons: 1. Linear peogress route and 2. Fast travelling. In ds1 you actually had to survive in the world (depths and blighttown a good example), but in the other games dying doesn’t really matter, since you can always fast travel away.

yeah, dark souls 1(remaster) was my first souls game, and while it took like 2 months after initially trying it out, leaving it, and coming back to it, it ended up being just magic from start to end. i still think, despite the obvious flaws in the later part of the game, that its the best game i've played.

That firelink shrine music kicking in after a long loop down to blight town slaps the dopamine right into my skull like you would not believe. Full monke brain neuron activation. Amazing. Other souls games have tried to make the world as interconnected as possible so you COULD recreate that by avoiding the fast travel if you wanted (except DS2 LOL), but because you know you can warp just about any time, the sense of tension and adventure just isn't there. Bloodborne might be the second best, or maybe even the best at executing its "theme" though. Its just so rich in story and world building that you ALMOST get sucked in as hard as DS1 despite the warp points. Even then, the warp points are kinda loreish friendly because you're moving through a kind of dream so it doesn't "hurt" the feeling as much as the warping in DS2 and DS3. Edit: Also the fact that they didn't fix Lost Izalith in the Remaster is yet another corn nugget in the offensive turd that was the Remaster.

While Dark Souls 1 may not be my favourite Souls game and has its share of problems, it will always have a special place in my heart. DS1 was the first Souls game I've played and it has so many memorable moments that linger in me until this day from the Black Knight located within the Undead Burg to Anor Londo. Oh, and the interconnected world just slaps. It's so good.

I will always be grateful to O&S for scaring me sm as a kid that I never tried the games. So that I could mature and experience them now. The rewarding feeling for immediately stomping on them on my third try was amazing. Being intimated by such a legendary fight for so long , just to experience it in all its beauty and then prevail. It was SO sick

Oh man, I really wanted you to finish that feeling of coming out of Blight Town for the first playthrough. You barely make it out, and finally find a way to your safe home, even pick up some items you MUST have missed previously, but oh well that's loot. Then you find the bonfire off, and a gaint neck and face in the distance. You start to freak out, IF I die again, I will go right back to the bottom of the map, in that horrible swamp and have to go through all those enemies again. Curiosity kicks in and you can't help but talking to the snaky boy and learn you have to go to Sens Fortress, and then it dons on you. I can rest at the church! Its close, and relatively a safe run! So off you go to your new safe house, to continue your adventure possibly never to find out how to get your safe place back again. Thing to remember is that Undead Parish wasn't a warp point during my first playthrough, which means that every time I wanted to go to my "new safe home" I had to warp to a close bonfire and run there. I also never thought to return the firekeepers soul, so I never got Firekeepers Shrine back.

I personally think Dark Souls lll is better, also the best game ever made, i just love how the theme of the endless cycle is presented, everything you do results in nothing, the world will die, persisting is futile, i love how sad everything is, melancholic, the gameplay is almost perfect, lore too, i cry every time i have to face Midir, just like i do to Sif, my third Souls was the first, and it made Dark Souls lll better, my favorite game forever, an experience without equal

When people ask me what my favourite of the Soulsborne games are, I always say Dark Souls the first and Bloodborne and it mainly is because of the amazing world. I love how Dark Souls 1 interconnected the world, how it made you feel alone and hopeless, but you still wanted to push on. I also got cursed in the Depths and had to get back out on my first playthrough. It was an experience... And yeah, the second half is more linear, but the areas themselves still kinda loop around a bit, which is also nice if you find the little shortcuts inside of them, but the first half is where it truly shines. And I actually needed a whole week for Ornstein and Smough, so I feel you there. I have the feeling I could play Dark Souls over and over again and love (almost) every little bit of it, while I look at Dark Souls 2 and 3 and go "Naaah, don't feel it right now."

I recently started dark souls. Elden ring was my first souls but i kinda rushed through the game and hurt my experience. I wanted to start over but the game is honestly not as much fun to replay. So i decided to try dark souls 1. And that was an amazing decision. I’m about 35 hours in and it’s been a complete thrill. Every area is so masterfully done and the environments feel so immersive. Although the game is quite easy combat wise, (compared to elden ring at least) It’s still so much fun and all the boss fights are enjoyable (except the bed of chaos)

Teleportation is handled so well in this game. You're running around outside Anor Londo with the express goal of getting INTO Anor Londo. You beat a few bosses, start to feel like a badass, and then Sen's Fortress humbles you again. You make your way through Sen's and fight the Iron Golem, once again feeling like you're no longer a scrub, only to have some demons bring you over to the REAL game. Anor Londo's reveal is like the game saying "Yeah, scrub, you've just been playing in puddles; welcome to the ocean". You struggle your way into the city and, after getting past Silver Knights in a tricky entry segment, find your way to the inner sanctum only to be met with Ornstein and Smough, AKA "Hard" and "Stop". Finally, FINALLY you crawl your way out of that fight, dragging what remains of your carcass over to Amazing Chest Ahead and the game says "OK, you've EARNED the right to teleport. Thanks for coming, now leave immediately". Fuckin Dark Souls. What a beautiful bitch.

My first Souls game was Dark Souls 1 and it absolutely kicked the living hell out of me. I barely got past the Undead Burg and the Black Knight there was the final straw for me. I rage quit then and there. I then revisited the game months and months later and recomposed myself and from that moment on it's been my favourite game of all time. After I finished the game I then started to delve into the lore and that hooked me in even further. People like EpicNameBro and Quelaag were my first foray into lore and then later on Vaati got huge but all of them were instrumental in me loving the lore. Dark Souls was the gift that kept on giving though as I did try to get into PVP and that lead me to coming across names like Peeve, Oroboro and all those SoulBrandt guys and I was hooked on watching PVP videos and streams. And finally, once I found Twitch I loved watching challenge and speed runs by the likes of LobosJr, UrbanOrb, Elajjaz, Distortion and of course yourself, Lenny! I've been playing Dark Souls for ten years and I just know I'll be playing it still in another ten!

Ive had to take a break from the Souls games recently because its all ive been playing for the past year now. I remember repeatedly quitting until one day I saw a speedeunner on youtube beat it in under an hour and I really startes to dig in. My hands would get sweaty and my heart would start going at 200 bpm. When I died, I would get so upset with myself, sit brewinng over wether I should just give up. But when I won... It was like I'd run a marathon and come in first place. Such a pointless and insignificant achievement to anybody else, but it made me so happy. I will always have a spot in my heart for the Souls games. Very theraputic for depression.

Also, for me, I played Demon's Souls as my 3'd Souls Game (not the Remake), and I gotta say, it's atmosphere and music and sheer variety in areas made it my favorite to this day, with Dark Souls 1 an extreeeemely close second because of the level design and a bit grittier and refined artstyle. But original Demon's Souls, espescially the original music which sounds like what the storytelling crew of an ancient theatrical play would do, holds a unique spot of purity in my heart.
