My mother had an arterial ulcer on the heal. After referral to a foot clinic and seeing a vascular surgeon /having a scan...they declined to operate to remove plaque..I'm guessing they thought it was too excessive and my mother too frail. She continued going to the clinic once a month for debriding the necrotic ulcer. After a year I took her for a 2nd opinion privately...she also recommended no surgery. I asked if she thought it would heal up ,she said no in her experience. But 6 months later with debriding and honey on the wound it healed up,although obviously some flesh missing on the geal. I think being forced to quit smoking must have assisted the healing..more oxygen in the blood I guessAlso during this time she had a TIA and was prescribed Clopidegral a blood thinner, possibly helping the blood flow better to her extremities. I'm very thankful it healed as my mother is in her 80's...still cant walk as sh's lost strength and legs not straight from 2 years bedbound ,but no opened wound . Im still trying to get her walking around the flat but she need a month in rehabilitation I think, intensive physio!

Well, you answered my question. I searched a few different combinations for wound not healing with lymphoedema. This video showed up on image search. I am 💯 sure I have a venous ulcer on one leg, and another spot on my left leg that could potentially head that way, as well. I've been asking everyone, including my docs - primary, cardio, and hematologist. None seem to know what specialty treats lymphoedema. Without significant treatment, I'm going to continue getting ulcers from a little bump. I'm going to urgent care tomorrow (hoping they'll have a suggestion for specialist) to see if there's anything they can do about my wounds. I've had to buy so much gauze, tape, and drainage bandages the last 3 months! Not to mention the days I was so swollen from toes to chest that I couldn't bend, or truly walk except to the bathroom. 😭

What’s up my man. I hope you’ve been well & that your wound is healing. Lymphedema Ulcers always have large amount of drainages. Lymphedema Ulcers are always related to Venous Ulcer because L.U. are caused by Venous Deficiency or Vascular diseases(Diabetes and more). As a wound nurse, I recommend going to a wound or vascular specialist(in my opinion a wound doctor because vascular is going to encourage surgery so they get more money off your insurance. Anywho, I recommend an AV Doppler to check to see if you are a candidate for compression therapy. If you are diabetic I recommend AV Doppler along with a Toe-Brachial-Index. The TBI is to double check if you qualify for compression because diabetics get a false reading from ABI’s

Four Types of Leg Ulcers ---------- 1. Arterial leg ulcers - caused by poor blood circulation in the arteries. 2. Diabetic leg ulcers - caused by the high blood sugar associated with diabetes. 3. Vasculitic leg ulcers - associated with chronic inflammatory disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis and lupus. 4. Traumatic leg ulcers - caused by injury to the leg. What is the fastest way to get rid of a foot ulcer? Oxygen-rich blood can significantly speed healing of a foot ulcer by stimulating the growth factors and stem cells that help repair damaged tissue. For the best results, most people need multiple sessions of hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Each session takes about two hours. What does a bad leg ulcer look like? Signs and symptoms of venous ulcers include: Shallow sore with a red base, sometimes covered by yellow tissue. Unevenly shaped borders. Surrounding skin may be shiny, tight, warm or hot, and discolored. What not to do with leg ulcer? Sitting and standing still without elevating your legs can make venous leg ulcers and swelling worse. Whenever you're sitting or lying down, keep your affected leg elevated. Is walking good for leg ulcers? Walking is good for treating and preventing venous ulcers. Sluggish or blocked blood flow in the leg veins leads to a chronic condition known as venous insufficiency. You may already recognize its common signs, such as swelling, pain, and varicose veins. Is Epsom salt good for foot ulcer? Despite the potential benefits of using Epsom salt for your foot ulcer, such as speeding up healing, reducing inflammation, and drawing out infection, there are some risks. First, if you have diabetes, soaking your foot wound in hot water can cause burns if you have reduced sensation in your feet.

What happens if a leg ulcer never heals? Typically, these wounds start healing or are fully healed within a few weeks. However, some wounds don't heal and can go on to develop into an ulcer. Leg ulcers that aren't healing can represent an important underlying problem. Getting to the root of the problem is critical in order to get the ulcer to heal.

Thank you very much for your video, very educational. Please I ha a quick question open to anyone. Why no debridement for the arterial ulcers. Is ia absolute? What happens of there is dead/dying tissue of superimposed infections? Or is it because since there's little to no blood supply, bacteria are unlikely to be there? Thank you

Hey Tom, great video but here’s the thing. For venous ulcers, you said for pain relief the patient shouldn’t take NSAIDS & go to a pain clinic. But I don’t know of any pain management clinic actually accepting new patients, let alone prescribing safe and effective prescription opioids for a patient in pain. It’s bad out there thanks to the DEA overreach. Pain just isn’t being treated anymore, just ask the thousands of veterans who were cut off cold turkey after the CDC’s Rx opioid guidelines in 2016 (which were based on false data they admitted was false in 2019), and took their own lives, or the millions of chronic pain patients also cut off for no reason & are now bedbound or dead. So the patient can treat their foot ulcer with NSAIDS which isn’t good, or a doctor may prescribe gabapentin because that’s given out for anything nowadays, even veterinarians give it to dogs for pain, which is useless because it’s a seizure medication. Thanks ever so much DEA for ruining healthcare & ODs from illicit drugs have gone up 400% the last 6 years! Awesome job!
