I believe that more of of these seemingly rare gems exists than the corporate airwaves will allow the masses to believe. Music is power=>hiphop is truly a language universal=>the suits in the big offices don't want empowerment amongst the impacted commoners (the core fans)=>said big suits make sure to promote bullsh!t that confuses=>the mainstream rap game in 2016 and beyond.

Anyone interested, this song was originally just Jay Electronica spitting on an unfinished track with a bunch of speech samples from 2007. Kendrick dropped his version on one of his mixtapes from 2010. This is both merged together. Also, IIRC the beat was released by itself on one of Just Blaze's beat tapes from 2005.

jay electronica is not a "rapper." Nay, he is a poet. He does not have an "act" nor does his work speak to a cultural fad or a trend. This is timeless. This music is a mixture of some of the best combinations of words that our language has to offer. This will live forever. In a 100 years the people will need light for guidance and THIS music will be the source. Not rack city. Not twerking trap lords. But this.. thank you jay electronica. @BangSkeeet10 жыл бұрын
***** I knew you'd attack the weakest link in the lineup. Notice you aint say shit about the other emcees. Truth is mixtape Drake has dropped some of the illest/unique bars EVER. Rumors are that he ghost-wrote most shit on Carter III, and that album is straight legendary. That really isn't farfetched and I believe he did. Drake maybe a young Garnier Fructis ass fool but you cannot deny both him and Weezy absolutely raped the game in 2008 - 2012. And the nigga essentially created his own punchline style of rap (hashtag rap). Jay E is great but saying he's top 5 is ignorant.
@BangSkeeet10 жыл бұрын
You're ignorant. You just take lyrics at face value, you don't know shit about the intricacies of substance-rap. Listen to songs like Sing For The Moment by Eminem or Failure by Lupe. Or Lose Yourself by Em and the same freestyle by Lupe. Kendrick's shit too is damn near mind-blowing. Or anything by motherfuckin NAS Those emcees you mentioned are pioneers but can not hang with the fuckin heavyweights of today. You know nothing.
@millachipmunk10 жыл бұрын
NahDudeFkThat I like your opinions. But if you're talking about substance I don't see how you can NOT include Jay Electronica as one of the best.
@walter9197410 жыл бұрын
millachipmunk True indeed. If someone can add Big L on a top 5 list and leave off Rakim, their list is nonsense. And Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Black Thought, Common, JayZ, Big Pun, Andre 3000, B.I.G. and Jay Electronica should be able to make the list on somehow as ties at whatever spot. Drake aint nothing but a Kanye clone. And if you goin off the strength of his mixtapes; then you need to throw Papoose in the mix. Same style and same type of punchline delivery. This is just coming from an old school cat that calls gats toolies...

@NegiZero4 жыл бұрын
@@counterstrike1110 Whole heartedly disagree, I'm wondering if you even know what shallow means. YAH, he discusses his place in the cosmos and whether or not a generational curse has plagued him and his people, DNA is raw lyricism, craft, anger and frustration against those who explicitly hate him and blacks as a whole but proclaims that we have royalty in our DNA. XXX is profound and highlights the hypocracy in his standing as a influential figure, he may preach a message of tolerance and nonviolence to kids but in his own city there may be someone he wants revenge against. Theres depth to each of these songs and I could go on and on. Just because the music on DAMN. is more accessible and utilizes a more trendy and modern style in its beat selection and just because hes not "underground" anymore doesn't mean he's compromised his artistry, in fact its the contrary he continues to evolve and elevate his art and time continues.

I listened for that part when I read your comment. That was Malcolm X. Funny how he didn't live past his 40's and yet he had answers to problems we face today 50 some odd years later...Amazing how his mind worked. Brilliant.

Last month I got to freestyle with Jay Electronica in Beijing,China. If you go on my channel you can see the vid! I also make really personal music, and Jay Elec has been a big inspiration for me, after rapping with him he told me to "Keep Going" and even helped me make a testimonial to tell people to get the mixtape! I'd really appreciate if you guys would check out the song "Kaos" or "You (Feat. Lotus)" Let me kno what you think and give me a thumbs up if you vibe with it!

Malcolm X is not saying be selfish, he's saying have your own thought process by not just following the leader like most black people do. Open your minds.
